What a nice set of superb Reticulated Giraffe shots. How did you get the five in the last shot so evenly spaced. I was never able to do that even with cattle, yet alone Giraffes.

Thanks for that comment ... you reminded me that I did not highlight in my post, that there are several kinds of giraffes. However, to be honest, while I think we saw 2 if not 3 types, & I think I could tell the difference sometimes, I wasn't sure. So I simply said giraffes ... good catch.

As for the shot it self ... hmmmm ... well, I could tell you that after studying the situation for some time, then doing some extended scouting ... followed by days of waiting for just the right shot ... but that would be BS ... the real story is dumb luck. We had just left Ol Pejeta on the start of the long trip home, when we spied these guys grazing on some tree tops ... so we quickly stopped & took a few exposures. And while I'm being totally honest, I will say that for the most part, I've done relatively light handed post processing on all my shots. However in this shot, if I were being totally honest, there was a very ugly fence between the camera & the giraffes ... which I did remove in PP, hence the darker strip of grass between me & the giraffes. I thought about taking that out, but it was too heavy handed for my taste, I left it in.

Tragic ... nothing but a total tragic loss. So I'll second your motion ... very, very sad.

They often suck their trunks when very young as a soother and are around six months old when they have full control of them. I spent some time in Sri Lanka at an elephant orphanage, bottle feeding the youngsters. Also getting in the river and giving the adult ones a good scrub with a hard brush whilst they laid down. They moaned and groaned with pleasure. It was a great experience.

Now that sounds like an awesome experience. Shortly, after we arrived in Kenya, we visited the David Saheldrick Elephant Orphanage Nairobi ... neither Keith nor I have highlighted that visit, preferring to shoot animals in their native habitat. However, when I was able to put the hundreds of people (we were included) out of the picture, it was an amazing experience. That group rescues orphaned baby elephants, rehabilitates them & then releases them back into the wild. I was quite impressed with the # of efforts the Kenyans have created to either protect wildlife or reestablish them. I'm planning 4 more posts from Africa ... focusing on predators & then taking a break. But maybe when I am faced with mud season here in Northern VT, I'll go back into my Africa photos & share some photos of that elephant orphanage. In the meantime, I admire people like you who have worked to save these animals. Thank you for sharing that.

Awesome...thanks for taking us all with you on your adventure!! The baby's are my favorites!

You're welcome Cindy, but as I indicated to hereford earlier, it seems like I should be thanking you & others for viewing. Keith & I had all the fun of seeing these beautiful critters up close & personal (well, almost) ... so we should be thanking people like you for reading & commenting. But that said ... yes, the babies were special.

"All the parts are stretched & elongated, yet they seem to come together in a majestic fashion." And yet some idiots want to hunt them down and kill them!

Very nice suite of pix!

Thanks for the visit & comments bwa. Appreciate it. I recently read that 3 very rare White Giraffes were killed in Kenya ... sadly, those would have been something really special to photograph.

Another excellent series Frank, I love to see the baby elephants thrashing their little trunks about, with absolutely no control of them!

Agree ... although some of those little guys were quite adept at grabbing a bunch of grass & stuffing it in their mouths with those little trunks. So they're learning fast for sure. Appreciate the visit & comments.

Really excellent shots of Rhinos & Elephants. The big guy last one is a really nice capture. Can't wait to see your predator shots. Thanks for showing us your wonderful trip.

Well, you're welcome, but truth be told, Keith & I are the ones who had all the fun & we're showing our photos ... so there's a part of me that wants to thank folks like you for looking & commenting. It is much appreciated. And I will admit, the predators are the ones I've been holding back on until the end. They were really exciting ... I just hope you & others feel I captured that excitement.

I just looked quickly & did not find the post I read a while back about uploading files to UHH. There is a Link that describes how to upload files (not clear if that includes video or not:

https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/help/how_to_post_a_picture.jsp

I also found a response from Admin that states the max file size is 20MB per upload.

Hope that helps. If not, contact Admin. They'll help you out.

I wish I could figure out how to post a video.

I remember reading on the Hog sometime back that you could upload a video file, but viewers would have to download it. Trouble is, if it's a big one, it might be problematic. There are people on the site a whole lot smarter than I am about this, but if I were to do it, I'd put the video up on the Internet & put the link into the post. Only caution here is, if the post only includes a link, often Admin moves the post from the Photo Gallery to another section, that fewer people read. But you might put a link into a post with photos.
