Hard to beat European cathedrals. This is the altar area of the Siena Duomo.
The sunlight thru the upper windows was quite a challenge.
WOW! You are so right! Beautiful capture! Prompted me to look it up on the web! What a collection of gorgeous frescos and construction! I want to go there!! Thanks for sharing!
I love photographing churches, especially Catholic churches because they are usually so beautiful. The first photo is the chapel with the famed "magic staircase" in Santa Fe. Then there is the remains of a church made with forced Indian labor. It was magnificent but the Indians revolted and destroyed much of the church. It in Pecos State Park in New Mexico.
I will post my photos now as tomorrow morning we will be heading out early as it is my surgery day--will be glad when it is done. I still can't figure it out--I was in Utah, AZ, and Co for 2 weeks one day we hiked 6 miles over rocks and etc. other days 3 and 4 my knee never hurt! Today I was vacuuming and cleaning house and it was killing me guess I must just be allergic to housework
Will send some positive prayers up for successful surgery,Catherine! Quick full recovery your way! Next, the collection of Churches is amazing! Great variety and capture! Kudos...who needs house work anyway!
I want to thank those of you who have participated in this challenge and hope each of you have learned a little. When this is run again things will be less hectic and I can get into examples and a little more in depth. Hopefully some of the others will get speedlights for Christmas, in order that more will be able to participate.
Thanks, Richard for opening our eyes and tempting us to purchase speed lights. Never really thought about it ..so..there you go. Enjoyed seeing some examples and viewing the videos that gave helpful hints on how to... ;)
O.K. I played with the external flash and tried many angles, etc. I ended up moving to another room and had more success..as I was too close to the wall.
Here is what I came up with. The pictures of me alone was with the flash on another tripod and just to the left. I put a defuser on the flash, pointed it up towards the ceiling and tried to turn my head just a bit to avoid glare. I removed a small spot of glare on my left lens and a fixed some of my flaws. The one of John was done with the same set up as #1. I opened up the shadows on John's right side. #3 I ended up with the flash attached to the camera.

Like #3 best-but your John's smile best in#2! The light is more even in #3-the way I see it-less harsh??? I hadn't even read Richard's note, amazing!
