I had 2 more varieties of woodpeckers visit my yard yesterday, at least i think so. The black and white one did nit have a red streak on the head like my first capture (downy woodpecker). Is it the same variety as the downy? My other visitor, I'm pretty sure, is a red bellied. I think they like my yard! Thanks for looking. Fran
Beautiful pictures. My book says in both the downy woodpecker and the hairy woodpecker only the males have the red spot on their head. This must be a female. The hairy woodpecker looks like the downy but is a little larger.
...I take shots to share interesting things (in this case the beauty of Bryce),...
Very nice shots, Mike. I visited all five of Utah's National Parks in 2012. Made a ton of pictures in each one using a 7mp fully adjustable non-DSLR camera. I wasn't on UHH at the time. My wife had a 12mp P&S and got some nice pictures also. I would love to come again but there are so many places I haven't been and at 81 my set of possibilities is becoming smaller and smaller. So I'm mostly sticking close to home and enjoying yours and others work. Keep um coming.
Eye of the beholder, take with a grain of salt or other favorite condiment: by lightening so much, you've removed the point of a sunrise shot (drama, contrast, mood, mystery).
I guess, in a sense. I judged that as an American he is free to determine what way is best to use the fruits of his labor. And since those fruits are his, criticizing his choice or questioning why he made that choice, should be out of bounds as we certainly would be squalling if the shoe were on the other foot.
I think that probably no one here would disagree that an American is free to determine what way is best to use the fruits of his labor. Almost everyone here has made a judgement (that is, formed an opinion) about the motivation behind the video. Some think it honest and straight-forward. Some think there may have been a hidden agenda. Often times there are many different things considered when forming an opinion. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt when forming an opinion. Sometimes the doubt level raises to the point of affecting my opinion. I'm not saying what my opinion is because I don't want anyone from either side to tell me my opinion is wrong. It's my opinion and only that. I respect your opinion. It's your opinion. I respect others opinion. It's their opinion. It seems to me that everyone should be able to present their opinion without someone else telling them their opinion is wrong. Both ways. Why not let's say 'In my opinion', then state our opinion and move on?
my uncle was singer and need to see sheet music and conductor at the same time during rehearsal ...he used one contact for close reading and one contact for distance .....you can train you brain to use the correct eye.
Whoops! Don't know what happened with my previous post but... A WORD OF CAUTION: When you do this, your depth perception suffers. There is an element of increased danger driving at highway speeds.

Several have mentioned this. My wife had her lens set up this way following cataract surgery. A WORD OF CAUTION:
Good capture. But why were you using a 2 sec. delay?
The NX80 is a powerful compact but not any bigger than most point & shoot. It's hard to hold steady. The two second delay allows me to press the shutter button and then re-steady the camera before the capture. The 2 second delay on DSLRs gives time for the vibration from the mirror to settle down.
One of the harder bird to find with any regularity for me is the Cedar Waxwing...
Four or five years ago a pack of 20 or more of these birds came through our yard and striped our Nandina bushes of their red berries. In a short time they were gone. I haven't seen one since. This is a beautiful shot.
Taken with Sony HX80 1/125 shutter speed with 2 second delay, f6.4, 123mm focal length. A Brown Thrasher flew out of a rose bush where I was about to take a picture and perched in a tree about 60 feet away. This is a hand-held picture SOOC. I think I had image stabilization (or whatever Sony calls it) turned on and the 2 second delay helped. I am pleased but all comments are welcome.
No, I'm referring to Digital IR. Yikes, I have not even seen IR film for 20 years...
My reference to Infrared film was said tongue-in-cheek to cover up my ignorance. I had no idea how digital IR works. Your post was very informative. Thank you.
