A few years ago in Yosemite a couple was taking a sellfe at Tenaya Lake and was using the self timer and had the lake behind them and just as the camera shot the picture a Marmot poped up from the rocks in front of them and got into the picture it was a really fun picture to see.

Drove up to the top of the world this morning to Mount Evans elevation 14,265 feet.

On the way down we saw this Marmot standing up looking at us. Just had to take his photo.

Marmots are one of the largest members of the squirrel family. They can be two feet in length and weigh up to 11 pounds and live in colonies of about 10-20 individuals and eat many types of grasses, berries, lichens, mosses, roots, and flowers.

that's a cool picture.the last time I saw one was in Yosemite by tioga rd.el about 9500ft.

Will be in Santa Barbara mid/end June -for a few days, then driving north. Planning - Carmel, Monterrey, Big Sur, etc.
Appreciate any suggestions as to places along the way and great photo ops.
Many thanks...Ken

pick up the book PhotoSecrets San Francisco & Northern California by Andrew Hudson; its a great book and will tell you just about everything you need to know about the whole area where you are going. You should be able to find it on ebay used for around $10.00 or at a book store new for &16.95.It also makes for a great Souvenir. You might be able to check it out on the internet. I hope you have a great trip.

On sat with nothing to do;I went to a place in Chula Vista Ca. about 15 miles from my house called the Living Coast Discovery Center. This place is really cool they take in Birds and animals who have been injured and can no longer surive in the wild. As you can see from the poster they have quite a variey and you can get up close to all of them. Check out there website WWW.thelivingcoast.org an stop in if you are in the area. prices are $16.00 adults;$13.00 for seniors and kids over 12. Its a great place to spend a few hours an learn about wildlife. Here are a few pictures I shot while I was there I hope you enjoy them. I will post more of the birds of prey later.
