Only good shot I got of this guy, but I liked the slight motion blur of the wings while the head was sharp. Had to resize it to post, but no other editing, out of camera. Nikon D7000 with Tokina AT-X Pro 100-300mm F4 with a UV filter on it, yes, I said with a UV filter, it was a little hazy outside when I shot this and they do help in these conditions.

Nice shot, was that that taken in burst mode? I'm waiting to see photos like that taken with a 500MM. The D7000 is a fantastic camera.

Yes, I did cut off exhaust stack.......

Jay that's not a truck it's a tractor. Trucks haul things tractors pull things. And I'm not pulling you leg.

That looks great thank you. Now all I have to do is figure out the steps you took. I'm not very good with elements.

when you go into the edit screen select enhance, then lighting, then levels. When the levels screen appears click on the channels selector. Select red and move the left slider over on the histogram until it just touches the black on the histogram. Do the same with the right slider. Do not worry about the changes in your picture. Now select the green channel and do the same. Finally do the same with the blue channel. It should balance the lighting in your picture but will not remove the yellow cast. Click OK.

Now select enhance again and choose adjust color then remove color cast. An eye dropper will apear as your cursor. Find a neutral area in your picture and click it with the dropper. The picture will change color. If it is not what you want select reset and find another spot. Try to find an area that is suppose to be white, black or grey. This will remove the color cast and the owl should be white. Then you can continue with any other editing you want to do. When you are finfished save the picture. Try and accomplish all of your editing at once. Since you are working with a JPEG the more you save the image the poorer the resolution will become. Hope this helps a little.

Don't be afraid to play with any of the editing features to see what they do. As long as you don't save anything you won't hurt your picture.

That's exactly what I needed. Thanks again. I open and save them in a PSE file.

I used a Nikon D300 with a Nikon 500mm f-4 manual focus lens to take this photo. Camera was set-up to ISO 640, speed 1/2000, f-stop f-5.6. It was a cloudy, day so I had very poor lighting.

I used OnOne Perfect Mask and their background to add the sky to this photo, and further enhanced it with Photoshop CS4 this photo.

I would appreciate your critiques and feedback how I could improve this photo. Thanks, Arnold

Looks like an adult red-shouldered. Being the background has been changed to a mostly clear sky I would put a highlight in the birds right eye

I would crop it out closer for a better view.

I have it cropped. This is the original picture. I can't get the exif data to show how far distance to subject is. My guess it's 400 to 500 ft. Just hoping someone can help.

Thank you MT that was a big help. I bought the D5100 to put the 18-105 lens on that came with the D90. I don't like changing lens's. As you know the D5100 has the same sensor and megapixel as the D7000. For a short time last year B&H had it for $650. That is a very good camera without many of the bells and whistles.

Take a look at this deal, might help you make up your mind:

All DX lenses can be used on the D5100. Non-DX lenses can also be used on it, they will all fiy and meter. The problem comes in the fact that the D5100 does not have an AF drive motor in the body so for a lens to autofocus on the D5100 it needs to be and AF-S type lens that has the AF motor in the lens. Non AF-S lenses (DX or not) will have to be focused manually on all D40, D60, D3000, D3100, D5000 and D5100 models. AF-S AND non AF-S lenses will all AF on any other Nikon DSLR body as they all have an AF drive motor incorporated into the body.
Hope this helps.

Focus distance is the nearest point that is in focus. Subject distance is the distance to the subject that was focused on. Sometimes your AF sensors will focus on something not in the center of the image.

MT
Does that mean a 400mm lens will always show the same focus distance no matter what the subject distance? Will it change if I set the lens to 300mm? Would the aperature change the focus distance?
Thanks

In the program "Picture Information Extractor" EXIF data. What is the difference between focus distance and subject distance? Is focus distance when the lens goes to infinity on a long shot?
