I bought the same, D3300 after reading tons of reviews...Takes great photos IMO...Affordable price...

I did almost the same except for the 35 prime. I bought the 18-300. Then I found this site. Had I started here my choices would have been different, in the lens (maybe even the camera-5200?). If you are truly new to this whole scene, buy a point and shoot first. If you already have played around with a point and shoot and are ready to step up. read all the articles on "which camera should I buy" by using the search feature. You have to do your own research and choose. No person here can do that for you.

Took me a while to figure that one out as well.

Oh sweet Jesus! (my landscaping friend, not the other guy) Just getting into this Photography "thing" and just starting to take both raw (for future endeavors) and jpg (for viewing today) I never realized that. Oh the information I have learned here!

As to the original post, even a novice like me has used some software in post production. If only to lighten or crop a picture. Why not? If you want to highlight something from a photo you took why not crop out what you don't need? I've taken many a picture with the intent to later crop it and keep both? Why should I have to zoom in and take another picture when it is just as easy to make another at home? What is the difference in changing how a sky looks either in post production or with a polarizing filter? Why wouldn't you use white balance settings in your camera to enhance the look of the picture you are about to take?

Here are images of the same model car, a '32 Ford coupe ... both have value to different sets of people ... we humans tinker, and we improve ... unless we are Luddites, and those are the people that are mad at the world ...

Got to thinking about the cameras I've had over the years and thought I'd pose the question - what was the first digital camera you bought?

First one I used was my friend's Sony ... that started the ball rolling

My first digital was the Nikon E990 and then the Sony Cybershot I bought for the sweetheart ... I got serious when I bought my D3300 (I know some will say not serious enough ... but for me at this time, it serves its purpose)

Opes! Truckster, I could be vulnerable but would "the Russians" get away with it? Could they upset the whole stock market or just one particular "target"? Could "they" intercept important military information from individuals or even the Pentigon? Someone should ask "them" to stop this monkey business right now!!

Just tried to point out that we all have something to hide ... legal or illegal. If you get hacked and then have to deal with your bank you will come to find out it isn't a joking matter at all.

Normc, I really wasn't sure WHAT to pack. From reading everybody's suggestions I have decided to re-think what I will take. I am thinking just the D7200 body, the 18-300mm and maybe my 50mm FX prime. I also own (all Nikon lenses):28-55mm; 55-200mm; 55-300mm; and the before mentioned 85mm FX prime. Along with the speedlight and extra batteries and memory cards. With the 18-300 mounted on the 7200 which other lens that I have would you suggest to take?

I've got a D3300 with the 18-300 as my walk around lens. The last cruise I was on, my focal length for most of my shots were between 18-135mm. Just a few shots over 200. Mostly taking pics off the ship while docked. If you are cruising on Carnival you can take one bottle of wine per person. Just make sure if it is a cork cap to bring a wine bottle opener (a cheap one). Carnival charges a $15 uncorking fee, but will keep your wine for you for multiple dinners until you finish it. We open ours in our room, drink one glass there and carry one in to dinner and that finishes off the bottle. If you bring the bottle to dinner (even if you opened it in your room) you will get charged the uncorking fee. Enjoy your cruise! I love them.

I have nothing to hide, therefore I'm not worried. Thanks for making me aware of this hack Mr. Jerry.

Really? Your name and address isn't in your computer somewhere? You bank statement or the name of your banking institution in any of your emails over the years? So, balls, you and everyone else has a lot to hide in this day and age. Not to say we are hiding illegal stuff, but we need to hide a ton of legal information that in the wrong hands can make our lives miserable.

According to the article: Komplex infected Macs by exploiting a known vulnerability in the MacKeeper antivirus software, according to researchers from Palo Alto Networks who investigated the malware at the time.

Anyone who has MacKeeper software loaded on their MAC deserves to be exploited.

Going to Italy, Switzerland, and France and will be gone for 20 days and all of my traveling will be done by metro or train and have decided that I may not want to drag my D7200 and two lenses along due to the fact that there is a considerable amount of walking and public transportation not to mention dragging a carry-on suitcase around, I have been on a similar trip several years ago but traveled by car. I plan on using my cell phone camera which does shoot in raw and does do a good job for the most part of taking pictures if I was traveling as before by car I would take my equipment, just trying to get other thoughts on my dilemma.

The reason we "drag along" our DSLR's is for the ability to "get that shot" just right. I would suggest you look into sling backs or backpacks. I just bought a used small backpack off Craig's list for $15. It has a strap across your chest so it will not slip off your shoulders. I have it carrying my charger, filters, cleaning stuff and three lenses. It is a breeze to lug around. On a train or bus you could hold it in your lap for most trips and keep it on your back for short hops. I've used it on one cruise and now it is my go to bag when traveling.

I want to save copies of my photos while on vacation, on a daily basis, but do not want to lug around my laptop computer to save the copies on. Does there exist a portable, "smart" hard drive or solid-state drive which would allow one to plug in an SD card and save copies of the photos and videos, for later transfer to a computer?

I know you asked about a device, but wouldn't it simplify things to just switch out new cards each day or two? Your device would have limited use, but those cards could be used all the time.

Good Evening Everyone! I have the AF Nikkor 50mm and the AF-S Nikkor 18-105mm, which would be better to use ?

If you are just "practicing" take both but shoot with the 18-105. Take lots of pictures. When you get home look closely at the ones you like and see what focal range they were taken at... you will have your answer for the next time.

You don't need a DSLR to take good pictures. Work with the AW-130 and just enjoy it. Millions of people have been taking billions of pictures without going to college to learn how. Use what's available for free.
