It didn't come till around 4:30 pm, so by the time I charge the batteries and played with it a little it was dark.

But, But, But I'm now am the proud owner of a brand new Sony a7r II :P I don't do drugs, But I'm higher than a kite, might have to take some blood pressure medicine to keep my blood pressure down some

The first this I notice that it not as easy to shoot as the A6000, they have moved some of the controls and is a little heaver and a little taller.

The next thing I notice is the electric view finder, OMG it is freaking Awesome.

One of the first things that got me excited was I can switch from full frame to crop factor and shoot my Sigma 19, 30 and 60mm lenses with no problems at all, I really don't know why Sony did this, but thank you Sony.

I will try to give you a better report and review later on when I get to know it better.

I headed out to a old windmill this morning Not far from where I live to give it a test run, shot in RAW + JPG, I don't much like the way Lightroom handled the RAW file, but photoshop did just fine with it, I was able to do a better job in Photoshop with the RAW file. The JPG picture out of the camera is just super, can hardly tell any difference between the two after processing the RAW file.

So here is a test shot or two from this morning.
It didn't come till around 4:30 pm, so by the time... (show quote)

 Very tempting.

Which one would be the best all round camera D700 or a newer D7100, use would be 1 to 2 weddings a year, 2 0r 3 assignments a week for our newspaper (my stuff all shows on -line) 9 0r 10 events in ballrooms a year, then personal use entering 5 or 6 local juried art shows a year. I do use and have FX lense I use on the a DX camera.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Bob

Either one could do the things you list. Other factors would determine the choice for me, such as existing lenses, camera condition and cost.

On Craigslist I found a guy who has this camera for $325. It comes with remote switch and off shoe flash cord. The camera has an unknown number of shutter actuations.

What do you think fellow UHHers?

olc

It may be worth a look if it is no too far away.

Nice! I have tried putting peanuts out but the squirrels get em first... Don't seem to hear the familiar screech of the jay's in my area... :-D

A squirrel proof feeder helps.

Need a suggestion. My wife's orchids are blooming again and I would like to get some shots of them with a dark background. The blossoms are a pale creamy yellow with purple centers. The only limitation is 1 flash. There are 6 blossoms open and 2 still in the bud stage.

Not familiar with your equipment but I use high speed sync to accomplish this by increasing the shutter speed.

Yes.

Basically, same as for other cameras brand. Why do you think they sell flash for their own cameras? This is the same as the raw cameras produce, you get better results using the company software first (to export to TIFF).

Based on my experience, I agree on both the flash and raw conversions.

The greatest amount of lens distortion and other issues occurs at the outside of the lens elements. DX lenses are sized for DX cameras so 100% of the lens issues will be evident in your images. With FX lenses you are only using the center 2/3's of the image presented by the lens thereby avoiding the vast majority of lens issues around the edges. Definitely a positive development. PLUS, should you ever upgrade to a full frame camera body the lenses will still cover the entire sensor.

Another view.
