love the picture, I took the same one back in 2000.
I have been taking photos, film and digital since the early 60's and still consider myself a rank amateur. We all do this because we love creating through the lens of a camera. I am still learning and the comments I read on this forum really help. Don't be embarrassed by lack of knowledge, this is the place to learn.
I also own a Canon i9100 and mine uses dye based ink.
I have program called Digital Photo Professional that came with my Canon camera. Its very easy to use. I find that darkening the pictures usually tend to enrich the color and I always sharpen a little. I also dialed back the contrast a little before I darkened it. I took this one at sunset on the island of Kona in 2000, That is a small cruise ship leaving the island.
I like the composition, I like to darken slightly and some sharpening.
can't take a bad picture in Maui. I don't think the rule of thirds apply when the clouds add to the picture. nice shot
I took two pictures inside the Chapel on the hill in Sedona Az. The chapel was very dark and the front wall behind the alter is glass and looks out on a bright sunlight scene. I took one useing the exposure of the dark chapel and the second exposing on the glass wall and combined them in photoshop. The resulting photo was perfectly exposed. When you use the selection tool it leaves a sharp edge. I think you can somehow blur the edge but I don't know how. The downside is you have to plan ahead and take the two pictures.
Fall color is just starting in the Boston, Mass area. This scene is the Charles River in Millis, early morning. Taken with a Canon 50D 24-105 mm L series lens.
