Why don't you just buy an adapter, the lenses are 100% manual anyhow. I use my 39mm Leica lenses on a Panasonic 4/3, and it works great.

They don't have Liras anymore in Italy, they have Euros. Go to any ATM machine and get your Euros. Stores and Restaurants have all their prices listed with tax included, so you won't get cheated.

Just be careful about the money exchange my sister-in-law got cheated when she exchanged American $ for liras. You could carry one of the many types of smaller lenses such as the 28-105. You can decide what you want to shoot when you get there such as in the "forum." The spaghetti and meatballs make a nice meal! Good luck!

Thank you Linda.

It appears that the P520's longest exposure is eight seconds:

There's also a question of manual focus. To the OP: does the 520 have a manual focus option? Maybe others here can address the best way to use auto-focus in this situation.

To the OP: try your 8-second exposure at widest aperture and highest ISO. If that's too bright, do another at the next number down, and so forth.

Why the lowest ISO? I shoot the night sky at 1600 to 3200 ISO.

Use a tripod and a long exposure. Maybe 15 seconds. Use manual mode and use the widest aperture and lowest iso (probably iso-80) and set your focal length to about 75mm. You should get something like this. This wasn't taken with a P520, but those are the settings I used and it should work the same on your P520. Note that with the naked eye I only saw about a dozen stars in the sky. The camera sensor picked up the rest.

There are several mistakes in your reply. 1) Companies do not use transformers for their voltage conversion, they use solid state Power Supplies. 2) Inverters are never used for this conversion. Inverters change DC to AC voltage.3) You don't own a dc/220-250V surge protector, you own a AC surge protector.

International companies have transformers to connect and charge their products that function with both ac/dc/110/240/250 without an inverter. That includes all major camera, phone and computer manufacturers. My wife’s hairdryers are good for US and international. My shavers are. That way they simply change the plug and the product is good to go anywhere. Some older products may be in danger, but I haven’t carried an inverter since around 2010, and I’m over seas a few times a year. Inverters are a pain IMO. Apple even makes plug adapters that are interchangeable with international travel to fit on their transformers (expensive). The only portable power product that I currently own that does not work with dc/220-250v is a surge protector. You can buy those on Amazon, but you have to look for one that specifically handles the different currents and voltages. Amazon has dirt cheap plug adapters that have worked well for me and my family. Have fun.

Very nice photos. I took my best shots with the 14mm Rokinon.

The 50mm info on the EXIF is incorrect. I used a 14mm Rokinon without a chip, so you don't get the F number and lens information reading. All my photos with that 14mm lens show 50mm. I also think this was a 3 exposure HDR sequence.

I can see why you need a tripod. 1/2 sec exposure. Beautiful image and this one is at 50mm but you still got the floor in the picture. Very nice.

One more advice for the OP. Don't get the type N adapter plug, they are 3 prong with the ground. Most receptacles are 2 prong. I was in Rio last year and bought these adapters on ebay.

An Inverter converts direct current into alternating current. So it's useless for the OP going to Brazil. All he needs is the adapter plug mentioned above.
rjandreoff wrote:
You need an "good" inverter. I bought one on Amazon (read the reviews) and have used it successfully around the world for three years. No problems at all with phones, AA/AAA/Camera battery chargers, laptops, electric shavers. and laptops.

On the Photographers tour a tripod is required. If you go with the regular tour you can end up with all the smart phone users.

I agree that a tripod is not needed for mid morning to mid afternoon. Don’t know about very early or very late.

All camera battery chargers are rated 110-220/240 Volt. Read the fine print on all chargers. You don't need a voltage converter. All you need is the outlet adapter.
jdub82 wrote:
The iPhone charger can use the higher voltage with the correct adapter. For your camera battery charger, I would recommend taking a voltage converter along with the adapters just to be safe, unless it specifically states that it can handle 220 or higher voltages. Some can handle the higher voltage, but not all. Phone chargers tend to be made to handle the higher voltage, other electronics may need a converter. A converter can be purchased on amazon quite reasonably, and they usually come with several different adapters.
