It just happened (again) last night. My battery was running low while out shooting and so I changed to a new battery and it was totally depleted. Either the battery did not make it to charger after the last run or for some reason it didn't charge. But this time I had another camera with me so all was not lost! Will definitely check battery levels before leaving.

That $450 didn't come from Apple, it came from your cell provider.

Actually it didn't. I bought the phone directly from Apple and got the trade in from them. My cell provider was offering 400.00.

Whatever you *THINK* you know that Apple is doing as compared to other tech companies…well I gotta tell you every last one…100% of them…are doing*EXACTLY* the same thing. And it isn't just tech companies…clothes, cars, just about anything you can buy these days.

But you decided to criticize Apple because you're an Apple hater I guess. In fact…they probably do better than most tech companies at trying to enforce good labor practices…but it's a simple fact that labor costs are the reason that just about EVERY tech company uses non US manufacturing facilities.

This isn't anything against fair wages or a living wage or whatever you want to call it…it's simple recognition of facts. Sure…Apple could build iPhones in the US…and Samsung et. al. could build Android phones in the US as well…but they would cost double the price they are now and that's due to a bunch of factors…not the least of which are US consumers won't pay double and US labor costs have gotten extremely out of whack because of unions.

Not a criticism of unions either…they were a good thing back in the early days when companies actually did exploit workers…and I'm not criticizing blue collar union workers who just want to better their families situation…but from the new pay rates that I saw that folks at Kellogg got for making Cheerios and that auto fabricators and steel workers are getting…well it means that part of the problem is the fault of ever increasing labor costs.

You make good points. Add in stock holder greed (us?) for the best return on our money...

Slave labor? We can't compare what those in many foreign countries make to US standard. Nor can we compare their cost of living- it is wildly different. Where could a family make it in the US on 76.00 a month income? I helped support a family from the Philippines for 8 years through charitable donations. The father's income was 76.00 a month and I added 50% of that each month which allowed the family to put their children in school and pay for some groceries and incidentals. What we may consider slave labor may be welcome in some societies.

I just traded in my iPhone 11 for the 13 and got 450.00 trade in on the 11 which is about 40% of the new phone cost. Have to factor that in as well as direct and indirect excellent service which is available. Apple laptops have gone up but have to factor in that I have not had a security issue nor a service issue since I changed to Apple 12 years ago. Guess that has to count for something! Apple desktop computers with big monitors are some of the best buys out there. Mine is configured with ability to add on hard disk and Ram memory for very little. Am I a fan of Apple products- yes! My experience has been a trouble free system for many years. Some things are worth the extra cost.

You’re dealing with a file association issue. Control-click (or right click) on one of the problem files and choose Get Info. In the dialog, look for “Open files of this type in…” and choose the app you want to use.

Thanks Burk! We solved my problem already but Merry Christmas to you !

On a Mac, you can right-click (or do a two-finger tap on a track pad) on a raw file in the Finder, and choose Open With, and then select Photoshop to open in Camera Raw.

To select that option for all files with the same extension, for example, automatically use Photoshop to open all .NEF files, right-click the file, and then select Get Info. In the Open with section, choose Adobe Photoshop in the drop-down field. Then click Change All, and click Continue when asked if you are sure you want to change all similar documents.

[Edit] OK, now you have the same thing to try a third time!

MAC or PC...if PC go into setup for the OS (and Windows version), search for default apps for various file extensions and be sure the RAW file extension is set to something other than Topaz, usually PS.

If MAC...someone else will have to help you.

Thanks- I should have said Mac in the initial query.

It's the day before Christmas and I'm sure everyone is very busy so if you see this and can help later is soon enough.
A year or two back I downloaded Topaz as a trial and the trial ran out and I did not purchase.

I never thought again about Topaz until recently when I tried to open files from the backup external disk and the Topaz icon covered the picture and would not open the picture since I do not have a subscription to it. The only thing I could do was to "hide topaz" but that was a temporary fix because if I clicked on the picture to open the Topaz icon came back and covered the image again. However I can copy the file and paste to the main computer and then Camera Raw opens it. The only thing that Topaz is interfering with are raw files.

Fast forward- today I asked my husband for help with this problem. So he deleted the Topaz file on the main computer and now when I go to click on images on the back up external disk the Topaz icon is gone but a message comes up saying there is no file. So I'm thinking when my husband deleted the Topaz file the images that were in that file were deleted too. However there is a file there because if I copy it and then paste it to the main computer it will open under Camera Raw so not all is lost but I would have to copy 1000s of pictures from over the past ten years and paste to the main computer to be able to view them. I don't have enough hard disk memory to do that.

If this is just too confusing I understand. I am confused. I went on the the Topaz site to ask for tech help but can't find anywhere to send an email. Guess I will be calling but not on Christmas eve.

If anyone out there has run into this issue and can give some quick "tried and true" advice I would appreciate it. While I appreciate good intentions please just pass this by if you are just guessing :)

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and thanks for the help.

PS- is there something under Photoshop preferences that says for Only PS to open RAW images?
