Neat shots! Love terrapins and used to collect 'em as a kid. My dog just brought one into the house yesterday like it was a new toy. I hope this lady was just kidding cause these are not water turtles. At all!

I have been seeing, for years, photos of flowers, birds, etc. with a pure black background. Can anyone share how they do this? I suspect it isn't with a black cloth although I imagine it could be. Thanks.

This is a great topic because I'd like to know too. I'm still a rookie but so much more to understand. All I can remember about this shot is I took it late in the day but while the sun was still bright, and that I used a flash. Enjoy! And learn all you can!

So I get home from work and my wife shows me this terrapin that Hattie, our pet dog, brought into the house today. Happened to have my 100mm macro lens on my Canon 7dii so I had to get a shot of it. Enjoy!

Caught this thief trying to steal a drink. Had to get a grab shot through a screen door so the quality suffers.

Neat shot! Wish I could get an oriole or two down this way. I've got house finches that stay all over my hummingbird feeders.

7DII at ISO 16000...

SIXTEEN THOUSAND!

Sure, there's some noise. But the image is usable. Better than we ever got with 1SO 400 slide film.

The above was basically straight from the camera... RAW conversion in Lightroom with default level NR applied and some correction of the white balance (image was shot by a single CFL bulb).

After being reassured by the above and a few other tests, I shot an entire session at ISO 16000 and 8000 and had very little problem making 8x10 and even a little larger prints from the images. Some images that were underexposed weren't recoverable at the high ISOs.

Shoot RAW, avoid underexposure like the plague, apply some NR in post-processing (I use Noiseware).

800, 1600, 3200, even 6400... no problem at all.

That's good to know! Thanks for the info. I shot some this morning at 3200 of some hummers but won't be able to have a look at 'em till this afternoon. I think they're gonna be alright, but we'll see.

Mowing my yard, I save a small patch of wildflowers - Fleabane - just because. Went out later to take a picture and quite surprised by all the critters on them. This one really caught my eye. Some sort of bug but I never saw the little worm till after several shots. The flower itself is about the size of a quarter, maybe a tad smaller.

A less than an inch inch worm.

Lightening fast on the strike too. Awesome creatures they are! Used to catch these critters all the time as a kid. Thanks for the shots!

I've photographed the flyover a couple of time. It's pretty neat to realize what it is and how fast that thing is going. I use this link...go here and it will allow you to sign up for email notifications of when it will be visible in your area. It was visible to me last night at 10:12 p.m. for 6 minutes at 43 degrees and then again this morning at 4:42 a.m. for 6 minutes as it went over at 87 degrees.

[quote=SQUIRL033]some shots of mom & dad feeding the young'uns at a nest in a local park... light was bad when i got there, and got worse as the afternoon wore on. so these are all at ISO 3200 or above.

Love these shots but especially the first one! Thanks for passing these on!

Went camping this weekend at Naylor's Beach Campground on the Rappahannock River. Friday was THE only day for a decent photography day. The ospreys were having great luck fishing and would fly nearly directly overhead over into a field to eat their catch.
In this series, the poor osprey just couldn't hang on to his catch. Shot with Canon 7dII and 100-400L (first version), and heavily cropped. PP in LR4. Focus set to track, which I'm really enjoying on this camera.
C&C always welcome from you, the finest teachers in the trenches!

Look everyone! I caught a big one!

Don't drop him! Hang on to it!

And so Mr. Osprey drops his fish. And Mr. Bald Eagle was watching.

That's cool! I shot a saddleback catapillar a couple of years ago that had been attacked. Amazing to watch the eggs in that thing hatch and start growing out of it. Nice shots, and yes, keep an eye out on that critter.
