Here is info posted where I was photographing. However, I agree with you that the image of the elk you posted is of a larger animal than in my images. Do you think the ones I saw were younger elk?

Golden hour at Nobska Point in Falmouth, Massachusetts. I entered this in a 2022 calendar contest, but it wasn't selected. I'll try again next year.

I was just visiting from New Jersey and was told by an Oregon hunter standing next to me that the small herd were Roosevelt elk. I certainly can be wrong. I was only going on what I was told, and not from my own knowledge.
