This is what you are missing, you need to color calibrate your monitor using one of the devices. That is it when someone views your image on their monitor and it is not color corrected they will see the colors how their monitor is setup. Welcome to the digital age, that is the same problem all website have if you don't have the fonts installed on your machine as the designer and the designer uses some odd ball font it defaults to a san serif font.

You where able to bring some of the detail out of the rafters, but in my opinion it looks over saturated in the orange & red hues

I watch a short video ( http://techcrunch.com/2011/04/05/ever-wonder-what-ansel-adams-darkroom-looked-like/ ) about ansel and it further drives home the point he visual what the finished print should look like and not necessary what was actually there. He definitely created the image.

so you just answered your own question

I guess after all these years I have learned something :)

the reason on my mac pro I have cintiq and 2 monitors which all are calibrated and then profiled to the paper I will be using. if I drag the image to each one there is only a very slight change between each.

nice shot, pretty young lady. Eyes still look soft what f-stop and lens are you using? I also like to have some highlight depth on face and catch light in eyes

I don't see any noise to speak of, Sharpness could be off since it was hand held at such a slow shutter speed also manual focus. A simple test is pick a subject that has a foreground image, middle ground and background. Focus on middle ground shoot it f-22 and move down the f-stops until f-4. shoot out in the sun so that you have a fast shutter speed throughout.

#1 good capture, but I think the focus is soft, I want the eye sharp it almost looks like the collar of the shirt is focus point. Great expression

My thoughts, the removal of the wires and items fine. I might have tried to lighten or bring more detail to the rafters under the roof just a little more detail. Same with the walk way rafters on the photography left. Darken the sky back to bring out more blue and give the front of the covered bridge more pop. If I wanted to go more take out the caution barriers in front of bridge left and right and that building on the right (photographer right). My opinion is the camera is the starting spot, get as close as you can in camera and let the digital dark have at it. If you are happy with it no one needs to know what was done.

While doing some reading I found this quote "Dodging and burning are steps to take care of mistakes God made in establishing tonal relationships".
Ansel Adams

I wonder if Ansel would have been around with digital and photoshop post processing if the quote would have been "Photoshop* post processing capabilities are steps to take care of mistakes God made in establishing tonal relationships".

*insert favorite post processing software
