funny, no one ever had trouble with this on 35mm film cameras. and as for mechanical shutter noise, try a bronica s2 or s2a sometime. now, that's shutter noise!!!

of course, you can always use a leica m camera - very quiet!

But at the time we didn't know any better. Never even tried a Leica or Bronica.

Getting rid of that annoying 'klunk' sound of the shutter/mirror made the D810 worth every cent for me.

It is so much better than the D800E but still not quiet enough for me. I won't be satisfied until they eliminate the mechanical shutter.

I’m a reasonably new poster to the UHH (though I have been reading the post for some time) and I have received some great help as I am getting my gear together by users in the forum. Reading the comments here and getting inspiration from the Photo Gallery continues to be a tremendous help as I try to learn the art of photography.

One thing I do not understand , and I am being absolutely serious about this, is vitriol that exist between
users of different camera brands, primarily between Nikon and Cannon. I see this in my own camera club also. In that case it more hash from Cannon to Nikon users but I imagine it could be the reverse in other circumstances.

I do recognize that we live in a more and more polarized world where your either with me or your wrong, but especially in a hobby or profession like photography where the goal is beauty , inspiration or to elevate the viewer in some way, it’s disheartening to see crassness.

It’s OK to have a Nikon or Cannon or a PC or Apple, an Android or iPhone. I don’t get the need to be right and the other guy wrong.

Just an observation as I read some past forum digests. I know were not taking about World peace here, maybe it’s just human nature.

Not only true for camera forums and clubs. Its human nature; watch the news.

I saw that. Thanks Ron.

Perhaps my expectations are too high since Nikon redesigned the shutter mechanism and uses it as a selling point. I don't see that much difference between it and the 800E. Perhaps I disappoint easily.

I'm certainly not going to jump ship because of this.

DPR has released their in depth review on their new 50mp cameras. Interesting reading for Canon shooters.

For Nikon shooters just look at page 9 of the review. It compares shutter shock at various shutter speeds and VR on and off settings with single and delayed release.

For Sony its not an issue at all. Canon does well, but Nikon falls short with all but the D750 which still lags somewhat.

Its a little bit of work but worth the effort if you have an inquiring mind.

The real shocker is how VR impacts shutter shock at various speeds. Its not at all what one would expect. I won't get into the details; you will have to do your own comparison and conclusion.

As a Nikon D810/D800E owner I'm disappointed.

Greetings Everyone! Purchased a new computer recently and updated to Win 10. Loaded CS5 onto it. It worked for a few times, then not. Have you any idea why it works for a while then stops? Has anyone had this problem or resolved it in some way? Would appreciate your help.

Try this if you haven't already.

Click on the small window in the lower right hand corner. Then click on all settings. On the right top is a box labeled "Find a setting"; type compatibility. Follow prompts.

Hope it works.

I had a similar problem with Nikon's View NX-I. It ran for a couple of days then would not open. Unfortunately I impetuously removed the program, cleaned the registry and download a fresh copy. It won't install at all. I didn't think to try the compatibility routine beforehand. It might have worked.

After about a week back and forth with Nikon they blamed it on my custom computer ignoring the fact that it ran initially. Then they lied about it on their CS question website and said the issue was solved.

I had posted this photo some time ago, but recently made some lighting improvements. This is not a composite photo with the moon layered in.
It is a simple one shot deal. Was able to get decent focus on the moon's features while obtaining sharpness on the Superstition Mountain's outline.

Also, this photo was taken the night before the complete lunar eclipse of the supermoon.

Comments are welcomed. Am always looking for improvements in technique.

Nice.

Lets assume that you are talking about a 300mm prime lens rather then a zoom lens that extends to 300mm. I good 300mm lens should be able to handle a 1.4 TC with the only problem being that you will lose one stop of light. If your 300mm lens has a maximum aperture of f4, a 1.4 TC will now make it an f 5.6 lens. Now, if you put a 2X teleconverter on yo will lose two stops of light so your f4 lens is now an f8 lens. Now you have lost two stops of light and you have also lost auto focus because f 5.6 is the cutoff for auto focus to work on your camera.
In addition, you will have lost a little image quality with the 1.4 TC and little more with the 2x and your viewfinder will become darker. So, what does this add up to. If your 300mm lens is a vey high quality lens you can take excellent shots with a TC. I use a TC with my Canon 300mm f 2.8 and 500mm f4 lenses frequently. If your lens is not the sharpest to begin with I would recommend not using one and if your lens is a consumer grade zoom lens I would definitely suggest you do not use a TC. I also don't recommend using a TC not made by the manufacturer of the lens. One way to go about this would be to rent a nikon TC from someone like lensrentals.com and then decide if you want to buy one. A tripod will help when using a TC .

I really see no difference except for some discoloration behind the neck in the PS version. So first one.

I tried to do as little as possible. NX 2 has D-lighting which makes it simple. With a little more work both could be better.

I like NX-D best of all but it has the same problem as CS 6.

This shot was with the same camera settings and lighting. All I did was crop it.

Much too early to make a judgement on PS CC. Just fooling around for now.

I have a trial version of PS CC for the next month. Got it today and so far as I can see its very much like CS 6.

I shot a few birds (its cold outside) to get files to try out.

Same shot processed in different editors...what's your preference.

edit: The tools in CS 6 are so small on my new monitor at 3840x2160 I can just barely make them out. PS CC does not have this problem.

Posted the wrong file. :|

I got it set up. It's small but I can still see it.

I have the option to lower the res and it will still be higher that the Ultrasharp is.

A potential problem with 4K monitors is that type and icons will appear very small unless you have a system to upscale them. I was looking at a friend's 4k the other day and when using Lightroom, the type was so small it was a struggle to read it!

I'm just getting into using flash a bit more creatively. I use a canon 5D Mark II (my backup as my Mark III was stolen from my van a few months ago...insurance replacement pending). I've got a friend in England who has begun taking very creative images of smoke using a flash. With his permission, I'll post some soon as they are really creative. Anyway, I need to purchase a flash trigger. Any advice would be appreciated. Also...suggestions on the best on-line or hard copy print info on flash photography would be appreciated. I've always stayed away from flash photography partly because I don't like the harshness but more because I've never learned much about it aside from the basics. That being said, I use flash fill often and bounce light indoors...and flash when I must. I'm looking at getting another flash as a slave as well.

I use three of these and they work great although the build could be better.

If I were to use off camera flash, with a receiver, transceiver set up will the old Vivitar 283 fry my 7d?

I have 2 very old Sunpaks that I use on camera and off with transmitter/receivers with out any problems so far.

They won't even fire on camera without the trans/rec.
