Love the movement & colors! I used to be a neighbor of yours...moved up to Nashville from Anna Maria Island...miss it very much!

These are wonderful! briace, if you don't mind, what camera and lens do you use for these shots? Incredibly clear and beautiful tones for night shots.

Remember that any additional lenses you might consider can be rented from reputable dealers.
Heck of a lot cheaper than buying.

I keep forgetting that I have that option!

Did you take the sulfur crested cockatoo and the lorikeet (I think) in Australia? Only place I've ever seen them.

No, haven't been fortunate enough to travel that far. This is from the Nashville Zoo. No big cats or other large mammals (except giraffe), mostly small birds, reptiles, small mammals and such. Really nice habitats and placements.

My bet is, if you took a freshly charged flashlight, put on your 35mm and get someone to shine the light, you could have a great shoot out of it. Have fun!! And, yes, most applications that allow you to edit will allow you to change that color image to B&W. Best of both worlds.

Thanks so much Bruce! I am going to take your advice - I just got my 35mm but have been very pleased with it so far.

For real close-ups, get a Macro (micro) lens. Nikon makes several...a 40mm, 60mm, and 105mm, I believe. Try the 60mm...the AFS-Micro Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED. It has 9 diaphragm blades, Nano-Crystal coating, Extra low Dispersion Glass, Aspherical elements, Super Integrated Coating, Auto Focus, Silent Wave Motor, and Internal Focusing. It takes 62mm screw on filters, weighs 15 oz, and has Auto, Manual, and Auto/Manual modes. Apertures range from f/2.8 to f/32. It will work well on DX, and FX, bodies. Shoot in color in RAW, and then you can play as much as you want in editing.
For real close-ups, get a Macro (micro) lens. Niko... (show quote)

Definitely want to get one - that one might just be out of my pay scale at the moment so these will have to do. I am looking at a Tokina 100mm, really impressive macro and excellent portrait (and half the price!) I am going to hone my skills for the moment until I feel like I deserve to move on lol!

I love this - I have a strange affinity for "doors", maybe because of the possibilities that await on the other side (okay, I really don't know why) but these speak to me!

I am wanting to take close up pics of different instruments and I have a friend in the music industry that said I could come and take pics of all of his instruments. I do not want to take advantage and spend all day in his studio and do not have the lighting equipment to do a proper set but all that being said, I think I can use what I have to do a decent job (I think). I have my Nikon D5500, 18-55, 35mm prime, and 55-200. Any suggestions? I know these aren't ideal lens for the most part and I'm sure some of you would have more equipment, but this is all I can afford right now. I am just getting back in the game and still trying to remember my settings so any comments on that would be really welcomed! Not sure if I want the final product to be in B&W or full color or both - thought I would shoot in color and then just play with it.

Very good series. The tap is terrific. Good eye.

I appreciate that frjack. I like to find something interesting and beautiful in old, quirky, unusual things. The rust and age of the spigot is what made me want to take a pic and the water drip was a pleasant surprise. My next lens purchase will be a macro so I can find even more odd things lol!

Someone has already mentioned Cades Cove and I second that. The vistas, animals, & plant-life are amazing but I particularly like to shoot the old homesteads, cantilever barns & churches. (black & white photos of these really shine) I can't wait to go back with my new camera after many years. I took a black and white of an old home up there, which is still one of my favorites, when I was a photography student back in the 80's and processing film. I will post it if I find the film but it was pretty cool!
