Another excellent focus stack! I love the detail of the eyes.
Great photos! I love to go to Farmington Bay, mainly in the winter months. It's a great place to shoot from a mobile blind (vehicle) and get a nice variety of bird photos as you noted.
Wow!! Great captures! I'm ready to schedule a trip to Katmai. Thanks for sharing these.
Another very nicely done focus stack!
Sippy, Wow! Excellent focus stack! This shot would make the best Hollywood horror movie producers jealous of the creature.
Mike, Great landscape photos! I love the skies. I've gone to BRMBR many times to shoot pictures of birds, but the landscapes are also very nice. You captured them exceptionally well with the early morning light.

Very nice collection of rodents -- some of which I had never before seen. Prairie Dogs are a favorite of mine. Did not know about their impressive vocabulary.
Hereford, Thanks. Yes prairie dogs are very interesting critters. The vocabulary information was news to me also as I began to read more about them.
Here's a bit more information about their vocabulary from the World Wildlife Foundation: "To a human ear, prairie dogs’ squeaky calls sound simple and repetitive. But recent research has found that those calls can convey incredibly descriptive details. Prairie dogs can alert one another, for example, that there’s not just a human approaching their burrows, but a tall human wearing the color blue."

Thanks Sippy. Glad you enjoyed the post. I enjoy learning a bit about my subjects and sharing what I learned. I think it makes the photos more interesting.

Whistle pig is another name for the ‘ol horry marmot.
Jrwil, Interesting! The name "Whistle pig" seems to fit very well considering that it whistles to warn others of predators and it looks a bit like a small pig. I had never heard the name 'Whistle pig' before. Thanks for the comment.

Enjoyed this excellent series, Steve...thanks for sharing with us and keep on going on those mountain trips!!
Thanks. I'm always interested in how much wildlife there is in the mountains. Oftentimes, at first glance I don't see a thing....but the wildlife are usually well hidden and with a little patience and careful observation, I begin to see how much is really there.
Very interesting. Great photos and nice explanation!

Wonderful set, Steve! Did you get any mountain goats or sheep this year?
Mike, Thanks. Sadly, no mountain goats or big horn sheep. I've been looking for them, but had to settle on the little critters so far. If I get some good photos of either mountain goats or big horn sheep, you can count on a post.
