I have a question. what's worse, going over and over with time between to be with family, or 13 months straight like we did in Viet Nam? don't know if the draft would solve anything, but it would sure prompt a heck of a lot protests.------------------+++++++++*

I know it's the "right" thing to do, but I have never taken a shot in raw. I use Elements to tweak photo's and I'm not very good at that. I don't pixel peep. I don't sell my photo's. I print up to 13x19 and I'm happy to leave it at that. I'm not very computer savy and at my age I don't want the headache of learning. JPEG only for me.

after 45 years I have had a few walk around lenses. I now use the 16-300 and I'm quite happy. maybe not the lens for pixel peepers or for the pros, but for most of us it's a fine lens.

as a wounded Viet Nam vet, I can say that for the last 10 years the VA has taken care of me. never a problem at the Hines VA hospital. I wonder what the hospital does that other hospitals just can't seem to do right.

Nikon D7200
Nikon 10-20
Tamron 16-300
Sigma 105 macro
covers most of what I need. now for that 150-600.

when it was originally written in the constitution there were only muskets. our founding fathers couldn't have envisioned what weapons would become.

thanks ChrisT, but I wouldn't want a grip without a battery compartment. I know how expensive Nikon's grips are. I had one on my D300. the problem with my cheap grip is the camera always reads the batteries as nearly dead. I tried setting the camera to the cameras battery first and then the grips. no difference. everything else works. I'll use it til it dies or I can find a good deal on a used one.

I have severe back issues and can't walk very far without major pain. sold all my DSLR gear. D300 and 5 heavy lenses. got a Lumix FZ1000. great camera but couldn't get wide enough and macro is frustrating to say the least. sold it a few months ago. now I have a D7200 with a Nikon 10-20, Tamron 16-300, and a Sigma 105 Macro. covers most bases. heavier than the Lumix but not too bad. just put up with the pain. I tried to go out with only a lens or two, but it seems whenever I do I see shots where I would use the lens I left behind. now for that 150-600mm.

I use inktechnologies.com. I just got a full set for 108.00 shipped. I have tried off brand inks and they don't work well with my PRO-9000. they are ok with my Pixma 4000.

I never leave home without one. I have used winders, motor drives, and grips for many years. back in the day I used winders because I'm a left eye shooter and had to take my eye away from the camera to advance the film. I'm a short guy with smallish hands and just can't get used to holding the camera without a grip. better control for verticals and the extra battery doesn't hurt. I have a cheap one on my D7200 that's is ok, but I'm looking for a used Nikon.

I have one on each arm. done almost 50 years ago while in the Marine Corps. had my future wifes name, (Sandy). problem was a couple of years forward I was to be married to Judy. she said I would have a miserable honeymoon if that tat was still there. had an eagle done to cover Sandy. now they are faded and look like crap on my 67 year old arms. all these people who cover their arms and chests with tats are really going to look great when they are my age.

I think I know what the OP is getting at. I'm 67 years old and been in this hobby for more than 40 years. my problem is I suck with computers. yeah, I can tweak my photo's in photoshop and that's about it. today it seems like if your a computer wiz, you can pick up a camera and shoot just about anything and make a photo. yes, a lot was done in darkrooms but how many had darkrooms as opposed to having a computer? in the film days you had to learn to check everything before hitting that shutter button. you got 24 or 36 images and hope you can get a couple of nice pics. today with digital you shoot hundreds of shots. doesn't cost anything besides the cost of the card. I shoot jpeg because I don't know how to work with raw. sure I can learn. I don't think it's all that hard and I know all the benefits it offers. I just prefer not to. I don't sell my prints. I have a few on my wall and have given prints to family and friends. I don't pixel peep. the largest I can print is 19x13. if it looks good from a couple of feet away, I'm happy. I just think with the technology today, you can call yourself a photographer without the learning process we older generation had to go thru. not saying it's wrong. I envy computer savy people who can manipulate photos with their computer. I fought hard with myself about giving up film for digital, but I'm glad I did. I tried learning some basics with photoshop but it seems like a lot of it is just over my head. while in this and other forums, I usually just read and try to learn a little here and there. I don't post much because I don't want to come off as a dummy. I love this hobby and will stay in it til I can't do it anymore. sometimes I just wish the digital age came when I was younger.

I'm 67 years old with a back problem so walking is tough on me. the Morton Arboratum is great as you can drive thru and park almost anywhere. Chicago Botanical Gardens is also nice but it's a walk in from the parking lot. many benches to ease the pain.
