Lol, hope he is not going to the vets to be “tutored!”

I love this photo…it speaks volumes to me and stirs my feelings about the new replacing the old. Sometimes the old has intrinsic value that the new can miss and warmth vs. cold. It is not always wise to destroy the old …I take this design as a tribute to the past from the new, a tipping of the hat in respect, if you will. Well done!

I love these photos. Late at night ....I think my finger poked the wrong smile!

Lol….of course I’m sure no one else has ever done that! Not! I just did a bit ago too. Thanks a heap for commenting, I love it, Walt

Yes I am a retired Industrial Electrician/ Instrument Technician for 42 years at Dow Chemical and as a contractor. You are the one tenth percenter that knows HOW. To do this safely….congrats! But we have to talk to the less educated who will most likely do it wrong. I have seen or knew 3 men who were killed for a mistake. I had to work on 13800 volt systems and down. Mostly 2400/480 volts and lower as a rookie I was the last apprentice trained to climb poles with spurs! Sure loved our craft! Gave me a very good life. You take care as I know you will. Walt

Beautiful, and it certainly seems as if they are perfectly camouflaged for that particular environment 🤎🤎⭐🤎🤎

Yeah I think they are too Joe…hard to see their bright colors they can blend in so well. Kinda surprising thanks for stopping in. Walt

I have used something like this to connect a small generator to my house when my power was off. The limitations to the cord pictured are that it's too short for such connections, although an extension cord could be added. Another limitation is that it will only supply power to things in the house that run on 110V and then only if they're on the right side of a two phase system. And only up to the limit of the generator.

Of course you have to disconnect the main breaker in case the outside power is restored unexpectedly. Moreover, not doing so would overload the generator and present a hazard to line workers.

"You could get sparking that would cause injury, but since you are not in direct contact with the wires themselves, it wouldn't kill you."

Or as Longshadow said, "spitzensparken"!! I had to look it up, but I now have a new favorite word!!
Happy New Year!
Mark

Depends on the short circuit capacity of the power source and the impedance of the whole circuit plus more....

Really if the too receptacles wired differently and you're shorting the 2 legs together it can kill you even though you didn't touch any wires.

Please describe how current can flow through the ground or neutral through the windings of the pole transformer (pole pig) when both phases have been disconnected.

Easy, When both phases have been disconnected that only refers to the Red & Black wires in a standard home 220V single phase system, both "Hot wires," the White Neutral is not disconnected! Also the white wire is bonded to the Bare Safety Ground, now if you back feed 110V or 220V from your portable generator source by plugging into any receptacle in your house you have set up a deadly trap without knowing it! Suppose your house wiring has a hard hot to ground short somewhere in the system which caused your 200+ Amp main breaker to trip in the first place . This means YOU are now hotting up with 110 Volts (or 220v) using the White wire and the bare ground all the way back to your power company. That can & has resulted in severe injuries & even death!

There are many scenarios involving these attempts to simply hook up ONE circuit like that.Who knows what internal damage the breaker or fuse causes when it trips or blows, (it may not actually open but become fused
closed due it's failure to work properly.) You have no way of knowing without fully testing by someone fully trained & experienced with Electrical Circuits! I am not saying you are not such an individual but way more people only think they know how to safely isolate than those that are qualified.

I have seen it too many times in my career... remember if it CAN happen it WILL happen! The results are really bad with no do overs. Yes, there IS a way to do all you want to do safely though not correctly according to code but it is more risky than one might think! As far as the pole transformer is concerned that is far beyond the average home owner's capabilities and not their equipment to touch. remember you CAN run a transformer backwards into the Secondary windings and the Primary coils will (usually) step up the voltage & send the amps from your little generator all the way back.

I would never advise a greenhorn to try this whatsoever, yes I know it is done everyday & no harm...but it is just waiting for the right conditions to kill someone someday and they will never know why.

I was checking my feeders out a side window the other morning to see if they needed attention when I saw a fresh trimmed bush start to shake and the branches really swaying quickly... so I focused on the bush top & this Spotted Towhee worked his way through the interior then popped out for a look around. This is becoming routine with all the Juncos & Chickadees & Towhees doing this all day long lately. the bushes make a perfect cover, it is on the South side so warmer in Winter yet in the shade in the Summer & thus cool. there are 7 of them & are kept trimmed. Hawks have never been very successful here only capturing 5 or 6 over several years. the resident Towhees have learned to use the seed trays & not just hop & scratch on the ground looking for dropped seeds. Now they go right to the source & chase off the Finches for some seeds! He had is eye on the sunflower seed tray the whole time!
