I lived on Kauai in the early 1970s near Hanalei. You've received many excellent suggestions. You can't go wrong on Kauai!
I suggest that you try to find native Hawaian with a boat who will take you to Kalalau Valley (on the Na Pali coast). You will be on (at least it used to be) the Sierra Club's most beautiful beach in the South Pacific. The valley is approx 4 miles deep and there are iconic photos taken of the valley from a lookout at the top of Waiamea canyon (you've seen this).
The valley is incredibly beautiful with a long ocean curl (seagulls "shoot" the curl), a hidden grotto, a Hao (home of a Kahuna) mango groves, a river/creek with fresh water shrimp, mangoes, oranges, etc. It's probably not worth it just to go to the beach (though it might be). I lived in it for about 3 months and could tell you many strange and wondrous stories.
Apparently there's a group of hippies (no kidding) still living in Kallalau valley, so you might verify the safety factor with the person who takes you before wandering too far intot he valley. When I was there, it was all love and peace and clothing optional ;)
If you're interested in this, feel free to PM me and I'll can try to answer questions, etc.
If that is not feasible, you can hike to the valley using the Kalalau water trail that begins at the end of the road (11.5 miles). Approx 2 miles in is Hanakapiae a beautiful beach, with a huge surf at some times of the year and a fantastic waterfall. The trail is a bit rugged.
The other place to go if you like to hike is Waiamea canyon which is like a mini Grand Canyon. If you're up to it, walk into the canyon and explore. Fairly rugged.
The island is full of wonderful photo opportunities. Best of luck! I know you'll have a great time and hope you share your pictures when you get back.

I will be traveling to Kauai in a couple of weeks. My research indicates multiple locations for photo opportunities, however, I will be there only six days. What would be the top five places for photos in Kauai. I am also planning an open door helicopter adventure. Need some help in settings (Rebel 6Ti) and any tips to enhance experience. Thanks in advance for your help.
