Perhaps everyone is aware but that road supposedly got its name from President Ulysses S. Grant's verbal response to the sensation of traveling it during a visit to Colorado. When asked what he thought about the road, President Grant's alleged response was, "Oh My God!" The road is a bit "hairy" in spots but is a shortcut from Idaho Springs to Central City, 8 miles, and cuts off several miles of distance when taking the longer, but safer, way around. Idaho Springs was the site of the filming of the Clint Eastwood movie, "Every Which Way But Loose" a few years back.

Thanks for the history lesson on Oh My God Road, I was not aware of that. I last drove that road about 10 years ago when I was in that area shooting photos. I drove from Central City so I was on the outside of the road which I have to say was a bit scary on that dirt road with no guard rails when I had to get by two dump trucks coming up the mountain! I was there again about 5 years ago with my wife and she wouldn’t let me take the road with her in the car.

Nice photos, I love that area of CO. Did you drive Virginia Canyon Road by any chance? Also known by the locals as “ Oh My God Road”. I will say it is a memorable experience. Thanks for posting.

Nice catch Bill! You are fortunate to have that pond so close by. The only thing I see when I get my mail is my neighbors! And I doubt any of them would “pose” for me.

Looked out the window yesterday and noticed the honeybees on the feeder. They were not dangerous at all; just collecting sugar water. It was the first time I had realized that my feeder has a hairline leak in its base.

I don’t know what part of the country you live but the disappearance of your hummingbirds may also be due to time for them to start their long migration south to Mexico and Central America. Our hummers in here SE PA disappeared about a week ago after a lot of extensive feeding. Our weather is quickly cooling.

It is quite interesting that, when a sandhill crane lets go with its distinctive "squawk" the geese respond by gathering around the crane. Here's a shot across the pond in my back yard. It's at the long end of a 400 lens, but you get the idea! Enjoy!

GBH…not a crane!

I have received several emails supposedly from Norton saying that my subscription has expired and they need payment ASAP to reinstate the protection for my computer.

I don’t even use Norton on any of my devices!

Thanks for posting these photos. I really enjoyed seeing them and brought back some very nice memories. I had dinner there about 15 years ago with a lady friend who lives in Santa Barbara. Got a table right next to their wood burning fireplace and had a very memorable dinner. Only downside is I live 3000 miles away so a bit difficult to return.

A friend is replacing her Honda CR-V with another one. She's always bought used, but she's considering a new one. One thing I find confusing is the engine. Do all the new ones have the turbo engine? The base model, the LX, is listed as having the turbo, but the upper models don't mention the engine.

In looking at used models, most seem to have the turbo. Honda had a problem with turbocharged engines a few years ago, so she wants to avoid them.

Any comments?

A turbocharged in-line 4 cyl. has become the base engine in the majority of all new cars and SUV’s, not just the smaller vehicles, and are very reliable. The Ford Explorer for example, is a fairly big vehicle and uses a 4 cyl. Turbo as it’s base engine, although it puts out 300hp! The horsepower the new technology engines can produce is pretty amazing.

Can you be more specific on your opinion on pigment ink. I'd like your perspective.

Check out the links Bob Hartung listed in his response. Very good simple explanations of dye base inks vs pigment inks and advantages/disadvantages of each.

You might also consider the Canon SX50 - prior model. After the SX60 came out quite a few folks said their SX50 was the better camera.

Yes, the SX50 is the best of that series….I have two of them. A great little camera. The Canon SX70 is currently the latest of the SX series but on back order everywhere. I have had one on order for a couple months. One of the Hoggers here may have a 50 or a 60 for sale.
