Does it filter any way or just any file with a certain name extension? I could see it gathering up files that are not necessarily wanted...

Not 'Sure', but I signed up with Google Photos, and it did exactly what you asked about. - It searched several PC's and laptops, then added every photo on them to the 'Collection'.

All in all, - I like it and it actually Organizes your photos by Year,& Date, and - - if you have a Google Home Nest, you can ask it to 'Play Photos from say, 2012', and it will act as a Photo Frame, and play that years pics!

Every camera and lens is a compromise in one or several ways. Fortunately we have a rich palette of choices today...but that can make decisions harder too.

And for Canon lenses their 300mm f/2.8 is not only a fairly large lens it is also one of their sharpest. If you have some room you can shoot nice portraits with it also...

That is not true. One doesn’t have to be a pro to value and appreciate quality glass.
You don’t know what is in the mind of those “regular” folks who aspire to make pro-quality images, and want the best quality lenses to achieve that.

Lens reviews at TheDigitalPicture.com may be of interest. Play with a DOF calculator to see just how small DOF is at wide apertures at the distances you typically shoot your subjects. A f/1.2 lens can have one eye sharp and the other eye not ...

Try cleaning the contact pins on your lens with a qTip swab and some rubbing alcohol. Sounds like the contacts may not be making good contact.

I was simply thinking that when we were out shooting together, I might be able to borrow her new wide angle lens, should the occasion arise. If I can remember long enough, I'll check again her nomenclature. I had an old Tamron 28-200 lens that I tried using with my EOS-3 and Elan 7e, and it would never quit focusing. But, I put it on my 1D Mk IV and it worked quite well. Wish I still had it, actually, but it was stolen.

Oh well, I guess I'll safely stay with my own lenses. I am experiencing difficulty using my 28-300 Canon lens with my new (to me) 1Dx. I have to keep turning the camera off, then back on. All my other lenses work just fine.

I think you can get to these resources too. You will get a lot of answers here but you may still want to talk with the actual manufacturer and large volume sellers for more peace of mind. That is my thought on the matter.

Actually, no. With everything being closed, I thought it might be a LOT faster to ask all of you!

Have you checked with Tamron, Canon and a good camera store like B&H? All just a call or email away... There are also many good reviews at TheDigitalPicture.com

OK. Thanks for the info. So if I put a Tamron DI II on my 5D, will it damage the camera?

Perhaps but is there really a reason to do it...

When you use an extension tube you can only focus at close distance only but the degree of vignetting is lesser. I believe when you get to 1:1 magnification all the vignetting would be gone.

Technically you can mount an EF-S lens to a Canon full frame body using an extension tube. The question then becomes what would be the purpose in doing so. Maybe there is one somewhere but I have not found it...

CHG_CANON wrote:
Only Canon creates lenses using the EF-S mount. These EF-S lenses extend 'deeper' into a Canon cropped-sensor DSLR than an EF lens. If an EF-S lens were able to attach for an full-frame EOS body, the flapping mirror of the DSLR would strike the back of the EF-S lens due to how deep the lens extends into the body. The mirror strike will damage the camera, the lens, or both.

The EF-S mount is identified by a white square rather than the EF red circle. That EF-S mount position of white square on body to white square on lens are used to align and position the lens properly for mounting. There is no alignment position for an EF-S lens to mount to a full-frame EF camera. The only way to mount a Canon EF-S lens to an EF camera is to force (aka break) either the lens or camera body.

Third-party lenses can be designed for specifically cropped-bodies, Tamron has many of them. However, the third-party lenses use the EF mount position; and technically, the DX-style third-party lens can mount to both EF and EF-S style EOS bodies, via the EF mount alignment. The third-party lenses do not extend as deeply into the camera body as Canon's EF-S mount, so there is not the risk of damaging the FF camera. However, the resulting vignette is typically beyond acceptable. Here's a classic example of the result of using a third-party DX-style lens on a full-frame camera.

Mine are Profoto softboxes I purchased new in late 2016. I have the Profoto Speedlite ring which I like and it is typical Profoto build quality but about $175. I purchased the alien bees lights used later and wanted to use my Profoto softboxes with them too. I found the ProMaster rings that fit the softboxes and mounted to the Alien Bee mount at my local camera store, Biggs Photo, in Charlotte. I can send you a photo if you want of the ring with softbox mounted.

True, it could just as easily be lighting or focus issues...

But the OP doesn't response back and we don't know why the pictures taken with the DSLR are not good. We assume it's the shallow DOF but we don't know.

Yes there are work arounds but most are not going to be worth the trouble...

You're probably right. I was gonna say you could always focus stack to get around the aperture issue, but that's going to a lot of trouble just for ebay pictures.

In the example I offered the phone camera will be the best and fastest tool with decent lighting provided. People built custom pinhole cameras back in the 60 and 70s to help take more realistic model train photos. If you are shooting side, end or detail shots the DSLR can do a good job. But if you need a 3/4 view or other deep DOF view it is not the best tool today in my opinion.

The issue of a small f stop was raised by others and I give my opinion that it could create other issues.

Point taken. But come on, we're talking about jpegs for ebay. Do you really think diffraction will be an issue.
