When considering a BENQ monitor for photography, you need to look at their SW series monitors. The SW series are specifically for photography.

There are 6 models in the SW series. Here is a link to the SW series web page. https://www.benq.com/en-us/monitor/photographer.html

I own the BENQ SW2700PT. It is one of the 27" models, and I am very happy with it. There are a few other members that own BENQ SW series as well.

I have the SW2700PT monitor as well. It has been excellent so far. I am very happy with it.

Does anyone have an idea of how much it might cost to replace the hard drive in an older 21” iMac? My old machine (I have newer 27”) is dying, and I’m thinking about bringing it back to life.

I had the hard drive replaced in my 2007 24 inch iMac about four years ago cost me 200 to replace the 320gb with a terabyte hard disk then. If I was doing it today I would have an ssd put in so it would cost a bit more. It is still running fine

If the power supply is good and if you want to take a chance that the CPU is good, you might look for a replacement mother board on Ebay. If you have an older machine, these used boards are pretty cheap and many have been tested. This of course presumes the CPU is OK.

Thanks for the idea, but I will just pick up one of the new ones without monitor etc. Will only be around $400 for one that does what I need it for and $600 for one that is overkill.

I assume the machine is working now.

Hi Mike, no the machine is not working and the only thing I said appeared on the screen was the monitors internals saying no signal detected. No splash screen or anything else. I have a power supply in an old machine, I will switch that out and see it that fixes and if not then I am giving up

were it me, I would remove all cards, all peripherals including keyboard and mouse, then remove all but the minimum amount of memory then try to start the computer. If does not start I would then replace the memory with what was removed and try again. The computer needs memory to boot into post.

I once spent 30 minutes troubleshooting a server that would not boot only to find a bad video cable on the crash cart monitor. A lesson learned the hard way.

Thanks for the ideas, I will give that a try before I totally give up on it, if not I will put it on my dead computer shelf for parts but will take the drive out of it. I will buy something to replace it after Christmas and by year end if it won’t work.

Thanks to everyone for their help!

You need to have the computer methodically diagnosed. Lots of suggestions in different directions can be worse than nothing.

A dead hard drive, or no hard drive at all, does not affect whether a computer powers-on. Lack of any video at all is not caused by a hard drive problem. And your referring to "the usual cause of problems" demonstrates that you need help in-person from a more-knowledgeable person.

You can't boot a full Windows 10 from an external drive or other media. A bootable Windows INSTALLATION media (optical disk, flash drive) can be used to see if the computer can boot and show good video.

thanks for your reply, I only mentioned the usual cause of problems because all of my previous windows boxes except one had a hard drive die and the other had the power supply fried by a thunderstorm lightning hit, have not had a graphics card or motherboard failure before, not even the first PC XT clone I built from scratch and soldered all of the chips into back in the early 80's.

The reason I asked about a bootable download was to try to boot the computer for exactly the reason you mentioned. But the fact that the thing can't even get to the bios ruled that out for me.

Unfortunately I don't have any old graphics cards to give that a try, all the other items suggested I have ruled out, monitor, cables, power, etc.

and it appears that this one is five years old, so I will not be spending any money on it having it checked out or repaired. a new one can be had for $500 so no sense spending any money on this one. I only need it to run quickbooks, nothing else so don't need much computing power for that just needs to run windows 10 and I will be all set. I will strip the hard disk out of the case and put it in a dock and then make sure it is wiped clean and if it checks out ok, add it to the new one for kicks.

Everything else I do on my Macs

It might very well be the graphics card. It's hard to diagnose without seeing it. If the computer has an onboard video card, I would take out the graphics card and plug the monitor in the onboard graphics card.

If it doesn't have onboard graphics, you can probably go to a local store and buy a cheap graphics card just to test, then , errr...return it, or keep it for a spare. I have random odds and ends from old computers, so I just switch out and troubleshoot as needed.

I give that a try tomorrow, not sure if I have any old ones to cabbage a part out of. Thanks for your suggestion. Oh yeah, the on-board graphics didn’t work either.

Thanks again for your help, none of that worked either, going to give up for tonight, tomorrow might try John’s suggestion of trying a different video card, I removed the card and tried the on-board graphics but am not sure if hp disabled them as the dvi ports were covered with a plastic piece that says do not remove. In any event that didn’t work either.

I don’t think I have any other old windows pc’s around to cabbage parts out of but will look tomorrow, good night

Update: Sorry, just saw you last post. If you try to boot with the delete key pressed, do you see the BIOS screen on the monitor?[/quote]

No problem thanks for your help, I just tried delete key and do not see the bios on the screen, got a no signal detected and then just black

A bad battery wouldn’t keep the initial MB screen from coming up, but I was also going to suggest unplugging for 30 seconds next after we determine if the monitor is good. If the case fan is on, we know that at least the +12V from the power supply is up.

I have tried power off and restart numerous times, still no joy. By power off I mean unplugged and then plugged back in and on button used to try and start it

Changed power source from power bar to direct to wall socket as well

Try replacing the battery on the mother board.

Sorry I should have mentioned that, I changed that battery last night as well as removing the video card and reseating it. Thanks though good suggestion

All the fans inside are running and lights inside the case are on just nothing on the monitor. I tried a different monitor and both outputs, HDMI and dvi

I have an hp desktop with windows 10, it is a few years old, I use it for quick books, nothing else. It will not boot or if it is no video at all is showing up on the monitor. I am suspecting the hard drive might have died only because that is the usual cause of problems.

My question for you folks that are good with windows is what things might you think causes this and 2, is there any way to download a boot copy of windows to a USB to then try and boot it bypassing the hard drive. The only caveat to that is I only have Mac computers that I can use for the download.

Thanks for any suggestions. If I can’t get it going, I guess I will be picking up a new one on the Boxing Day sales

You need to print a lot to justify the pro 1000. Search for Jose Toolman and read his blog and watch his video about how much you need to print to keep the printer from getting clogs and wasting ink.

If you print or intend to print a lot. Ignore the above, I have heard they are both very good printers. I use the pro 100 and wanted to upgrade to the pro 1000 but for once was honest with myself, I don’t print enough.

And the pro 1000 makes bigger prints.
