Jerryc41, I use a Free Program called DiskMakerX
http://diskmakerx.com/
Once open it tries to find the OS X Install program, Then walks you thru to build a bootable install disk.

You will need at least an 8GB flash drive...And backup all your data first, just in case something goes wrong. I usually use the Disk Utility to format the USB stick to “MAC OSX Extended (Journeled)”

I have used the procedure where you download it again , tell it to install to the USB and then pull the stick when the computer tries to reboot, then use these files to make a boot disk....But Diskmaker seems to be a lot less trouble.

Good Luck

That never occurred to me. How could you reinstall an operating system? Rely on TimeMachine? Does that duplicate the disc?

I burn it to a flash drive, if you want to know how, I'll find the instructions when I get home today.

I agree completely, spend more time and effort than its worth.
I have found a complete reformat and reinstall to be the most benefit--but-it is still a pain, esp with apple not supplying operating system discs anymore.

I'm hesitant to use programs unless I can be pretty sure that they are safe. I've run a few over the years that did more harm than good. If a program or app has a good reputation, I'll use it, but there are too many that claim to be wonder workers.

I've tried a couple of the defragment apps, but they don't seem to make a noticeable difference, like on windows.
I'm wondering if this AppZapper app, will be like a registry cleaner? If so, that should make a big difference.

I always wondered about Macs and defragmenting. A few days ago I read an article saying that, for the most part, iOS takes care of that automatically, although there are ways to defragment.

Thanks, I was just getting ready to do a reformat. But I'll give these a try first.
I do a reformat on my windows machines every year, and it seems about every 3 on the Macs.

What a neat effect photoshopmikey, I was expecting just a regular frame, Not a huge museum piece in your studio!
Love it!

Ok, here's some more to add to the mix…:)
I also shoot 5DMKII, If I shoot in “Auto Mode” I use "P" mode to have control of the flash.
I use JPG Med for pics I need quick, but also RAW incase things don't look right.
Here are my settings that made my pictures 'Pop".

EXPO.COMP/AEB -⅔
WB SHIFT/BRT A5,0
PICTURE STYLE
Sharpness Contrast Saturation Color Tone
Portrait 2,0,2,0
Standard 3,0,3,0
Landscape 4,0,2,0

These have worked very well for me, but beware of the "Reds". Red flowers next to a red blanket, near a reddish face…will produce alot of bleed over. Simple fix if you shoot RAW also...

I am not offended, but really appreciate anyone who takes their time to try to offer advise to help someone else improve. We all come from different backgrounds & life experiences, & we all have our weaknesses and strengths.

Post processing is widely misunderstood, a JPG straight out of the camera is not ‘pure’…it was ‘processed’ by the camera in the same way a roll of 35mm film sent to a lab..gets processed before the final print.
Having grown up with family members who worked at small and large photo labs, I knew early on that when people sent in their negatives..that processing was being done. I learned to airbrush photos for retouching (adding hair-removing divorcee-glare off glasses and colorizing black and white), where the ‘lab’ would make another negative and develop off that.
So to me, we can learn to do our own processing, or let the camera and lab decide it for us.
I agree this is a benefit of being a part of this forum,& I especially enjoy the C&C section, because they edit and explain “how” they did it. I have been amazed at how many times a ‘Perfect’ picture (in my eyes), has had obvious flaws pointed out-or-has been improved by one or more members.
Just my 2cents

Like many other hoggers, I welcome others to edit or modify my photos and post their results. I enjoy the post processing almost as much as taking the photos themselves. While there are purists here that think post processing degrades an original image, I can assure you, as someone who has worked in a wet darkroom, that post processing is part of the photographic experience. I am curious to hear whether you are offended when others edit your pictures. As long as it is done in good faith, I think this is a benefit of being a part of this forum. What do you think?

Im wondering about proof of purchase too. I have one that went bad onme after paying around 50 or 60 dollars+ on it, either at best buy or online at amazon (cant remember) ! It was less than a month after buying it ! Same exact scenerio. I always back up my picures first, then delete them off the card, and do a new format. Well, it wouldn't let me format it. I actually still have it sitting on top my compurer desk because evrn though it was useless, I couldn't justify throwing it away after spnding so much money on it. I dont have the receipt from either place and dont remeber which place I bought it. But its still only been several months now. Do I just contact sandisk ?

I had to look up my info when I was dealing with SanDisk….
They did ask for proof of purchase, I had bought mine 2yrs earlier at BestBuy, Luckily I joined rewards zone years ago, so your account shows all past purchases.
Your amazon account has the same record of purchases.

I use the same routine as you. The Only one I've had fail, Wouldn't be recognized by the card reader..after trying 3 card readers and two computers-I figured it had to be the card.
Called SanDisk, they had me give them a number on the side of the card, They gave me a RMA # and sent it in so they could "test" it…then sent me a new one. Took a couple weeks.
Definitely worth it.

rpavich, Besides not having rods & the flash mounting on the outside, I thought they were basically the same…although yours seems Very shallow compared to the Apollo 28" I was looking at.

That's cool, but the OP should know that this is a different configuration entirely, much heavier too.

I almost went with the Westcott, but decided to go with the Cheetah 24" instead. http://www.cheetahstand.com/Cheetah-QBox-24-Pro-p/q24.htm
It Folds up like a reflector panel..see video...Comes with a a ball head mount-grid-inner diffusion panel-and a 'round' panel-I guess to be a sort of beauty dish. Flash is on outside-easy to adjust….BUT….I had to do some modifying because the pocket wizard TT5 would not fit properly.

I would set it to manual mode..and speed up the shutter as fast as possible, which would be 1/200 in your case. Set aperture where you like, and adjust flash output-distance and ISO till you like it.
