Barb I have the newest Nikon 80-400mm lens, quite a hefty price but I love it, the older model did not have VR I don't know a lot about the older one. In my research about them this was not a highly regarded lens , that was the impression I got. If you want to see what you can do with the new one check my flickr link.

I was wondering why you picked this lens over the Nikon 200-500 or one of the Tamron/Sigma 15-600? I have the 80-400 new version and love it. Picked it due to the 80mm start but most of my friends use the 200-500 and now I'm getting tempted to go with that lens.... Never ends...

I have purchased items from them for many years, from filters to cameras, lenses and computers. I have never been disappointed. I don't recall any issues, although I know that they used to ship from New York City exclusively and now have a distribution center in New Jersey. I have purchased items from NJ as well and no issues to date. They will take care of any problem and are helpful with phone support as well. By the way, after your purchase, if you find that within 30 days of purchase they have gone down in price, they will credit you. I had that experience once, no problems.

Lou,

As other members have mentioned there could be several reasons for this happening in addition to this being an oversight. Our Customer Service Dept. will reopen in an hour or two and I suggest calling them immediately and have your Order Number at hand. If all else fails, please send your issue with order number to henryp@bhphoto.com explaining your shipment problem. In any event, please keep us in the loop and let us know if i was resolved to your satisfaction. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best wishes to all for a magnificent weekend.

Many people simply are not upgrading unless they want to use there DSLR for video. Example my son uses a Nikon D5100 but is saving for a Sony A6500.

All this will come to pass, sooner or later.

I agree. This to shall pass. I use my cell phone at work when I forget to bring my Sony A6000 to a job site. But for fun and wildlife I use my Nikon D500 and 80-400mm or other lenses. Your not going to get this shot with a cell phone.

I only recently began buying from B&H. I placed 2 orders in the last week, both containing 2 items. The first arrived and was fine. But the second arrived with only one of the two items in the package despite the fact that the packing slip indicated both were included.

I recognize that mistakes happen and know they are a reputable shop. I have no doubt they will take care of it (today is Saturday so I can't get in touch with them) and I'm not trashing them. But, I must confess that this happening on only my second order with them is a bit discouraging.

Just curious to hear from others who use them whether or not my experience is a very rare exception.

Thanks.

I hate and like B&H.

Hate because I am a professional video camera salesman. They sell cameras (except fixed price like Sony FS7) so cheap it's hard to match their price and make a living. I like B&H because I buy a lot of personal DSLR camera equipment and normally I buy refurbished lenses or bodies. And I get a decent price.

Hey guys,
with the increasing amount of pictures shared and uploaded every day to give us insight into the daily life of mostly strangers, how will genres like Street Photography cope with the diluting quality?

Will the increase in popularity and images overall benefit a genre as complex as Street Photography, or will it face a real problem when quality doesn't succeed anymore, but everyone is fishing for likes?

Here are my personal thoughts and a few tips how to deal with this increasing "peer pressure": Is Street Photography Dead

Nice article. My daughter is a waitress and every time she takes pictures of a family or couple at her restaurant she also includes a picture of a selfie. While we were on our vacation on a Safari to Kruger Park South Africa, A family asked to have a picture taken with me and our guide. Of course she ended up taking a selfie of that shot as well.

I do not know how soft the picture is because I do not know how much you cropped and did not look at the noise. The picture is defintely soft in terms of contrast and your exposure may be off. I hope you shoot raw. The autofocus may also be a culprit. Practice with live view and spot focusing on static as well as moving objects. Compare the quality with and without a tripod. Lenses, especially cheaper ones, do go soft at maximum aperture or focal length. Put up a lens target or something with large print or even a book shelf. Shoot at four apertures (maximum and then in 2 stop increments) and three focal lengths (shortest, longest, in between). Use very bright light and a tripod. All these things rule out the lens quality so do them first before buying a new one.

Good luck.

I appreciate the comments everyone. Frankly, I have a long ways to go no matter which lens I use. Went to a lake in Kissimmee today and also to Gatorland and took a few shots. Many soft... I also have a long ways to go in learning Light Room and have not started using Photoshop yet.... It's a nice hobby for sure with plenty to learn...

I have the new version of the Nikon 80-400mm lens. A few people I know use the Nikon 200-500mm for birding.

Do you feel the 200-500 is a better choice for wildlife photography. I like my lens but curious what your thoughts are comparing both.

Recently on the way home to Florida from Dubai on air emirates I had to turn in all my electronics except my cell phone just before we entered the airplane. They sealed it and I got it back when arrived in Orlando. This included two cameras and an iPad. I kept my memory cards with me.
