To set the record straight , John Wayne was interested in playing football at Annapolis and to gain a United States Navy Commission in the 1930's before World War 2 even started . He wanted to join the Army in around 1944-1945 , but they didn't want him . He was more valuable making movies for recruitment .
As far as his social commentary , he did make at times controversial statements . Haven't you ? Or are you a part of this new breed who judges a man not by his whole life but by a selective litmus test ?

American culture is dying because of people like you . People of all backgrounds , religions and color have made controversial comments in their past , and some have had complete turn arounds in their lives too . But now it is fashionable to denounce people if they broke the rules according to the PC rule book . It's nonsense , it's naive and stupid . I've said controversial things too in the past because I'm human . I've also grown and learned things that allows me to evaluate my own past errors in judgement . That's called growing up . I'd suggest you do the same .
