Thanks for your suggestion. I looked on evilbay and came across Pentax K10D cameras. I believe it said they were 10.2 mp as opposed the K20Ds with 14mp. The K10s were about half the price of the K20s so the question now is: For the things I would use the camera for, would the loss of 4mp make that much difference ? ....... Thanks again, Alan

Off topic question: I have 4 rolls of outdated fujifilm I would use in a Mamiya 645J I used to own. The film has been in kept in the fridge. Can I sell that on this site ?

Right to the point. I like that.
1. Used camera ? $100
2. This one is tougher - Deep sky, lunar and planetary
3. Through the telescope
4. The lens doesn't come off and there's no way to take a series of photos in quick succession (same object) for image stacking software that will pick out the clearest shot.

Hello everyone,
I didn't where where to post this so I'll just put in my questions: Except for a old 35mm SLR, I have only an Olympus FE-140 6 megapixel camera. I'm interested in general photography as well as astrophotography. I also do some telescope mirror testing and want to record the images I see through the tester so they can be used with a test program called Foucault unmasked. The images of a parabolic mirror change as the carriage on the tester is moved toward you (adjustment knob) in small increments. The results are fed into a laptop with the software on it and it comes up with a nice graph and numerical results (mirror quality). I don't need a boatload of megapixels and too many buttons are just that. If they still have a way to connect a plunger cable like they did on film cameras, that would be an advantage because the camera position shouldn't be disturbed during this mirror test.
I don't have a lot of money to spend on a camera because of my fixed income (soc security) so perhaps some kind of used DSLR (minus the screen that you can't see in the sunlight) might do. A screen might be okay if you can turn it off and use a somewhat retro viewfinder. Any camera I get will of course need to include the instructions. Now it's your turn .... What do you suggest ?

I really appreciate all the good replies. Fredrick taught me something though and I'm going to look at the printer because printer rollers can get glazed. There must be a way of getting them super clean which would give them more grab. Experiment after that

I don't want to buy their overpriced paper. Is there someplace to get paper that makes good prints for less money. Could be semi gloss or glossy. Guess I should also ask what makes photo paper (for printers) different. Thanks

Hard stop would be the best description. It's like bumping into something

Hello all,
I've got 3 tripods, but one of the easiest to grab and use is this old linhof. Unfortunately something happened to the range of motion, so the handle only travels up and down about an inch and a quarter. I put some oil down in the separation, but that didn't seem to help. Does anyone know how to get this stubborn thing apart ?

OP: I'm deleting the word azimuth since this is incorrect

That was a good idea, but I just tried it and the wrench just slips and scratches the white plastic. I'm wondering if they glued that in.

I do have a spanner wrench, but I would have to drill my own holes. This is strictly a DIY thing. Thanks :)
