I have had the first shot of a burst turn out well, but it is not something that happens frequently enough to make me avoid bursts.

I used to shoot events for PR for an organization I belonged to. There were frequently shots of someone at a podium, speaking. There were two guys, high up in the organization, so they were frequent subjects, who would contort their faces into the most amazing expressions while speaking. Their face could do that in the few milliseconds between deciding to take the shot and the shutter opening. The ONLY way to get a good shot of either of these guys was spray and pray. Many times I would take 3-5 shot bursts, winding up with 50-100 shots to choose from.

Another thing I encountered was when doing group shots with flash. Many times I would encounter a blinker. There are two kinds of blinkers: most frequently someone will blink in response to the preflash and their eyes are closed when the shot happens. Another kind has a delayed response, so they will blink after the shot. The first kind is addressed by raising the ISO to the point where it doesn't affect the IQ too much but allows the flash to loaf so it doesn't dump all the charge in one flash. Then you can use a high speed burst and get 3-4 shots of the group on a single charge. The first kind of blinker usually recovers by the third shot and you can get their eyes open. If you have both kinds of blinkers in a group, it's tough to get everyone with their eyes open in one burst. If that happens, the only remedies I have are (1) take longer bursts; (2) swap heads in Photoshop. Since you took a fast burst the background doesn't change much so it's really easy to swap heads without worrying much about the background changing.

Sometimes multiple shots are necessary.

This is digital. The shots are essentially free. The cost of a shot is (1) amortization of the capital costs of the equipment (so the more you use it, the less the shots cost); (2) your time in selecting the shots. The second cost is the most important one. However, multiple shots provide some insurance for those shots that are nonrepeatable.

I take a lot of pictures for various functions at my church. Even though I don't use a flash, I still had both types of blinkers. Today, I rarely get a picture with someone with closed eyes. I ask everyone in the group to close their eyes and open them with a big smile when I count "3". On "3", I start a short burst.

Interesting: the photo of the sailor leaning on the rail on the bow of a ship that is tied up to a dock, is incorrect. He is on the fantail (rear) of the ship. The very short pole the flag is attached to only exists on the fantail of most ships and a flag is flown from it only when the ship is in port.

As several have said, some fruitcake turns out delicious. My Mom made fruitcakes in late June/early July and they were brownish and had a taste I thought was unpleasant. She put her cakes in what I've always called an angelfood pan (has the center upright that makes a hole in the middle of the cake), wrapped them in clean flour sacks, put a small apple in the center to keep the wrapping in place, soaked the wrapping in kind of red wine, place that cake in an airtight container. Every three weeks, the airtight can was opened, the apple changed and the wrappings again soaked in red wine and replaced back in the air tight container. When opened for Thanksgiving, the cake was very dark, smelled great, was very moist, and by the time Christmas had passed, just our small family( 2 uncle and aunt couples, 2-3 nieces/nephews, Mom and Dad and I, all four cakes were eaten. Mother was an X-Ray tech and didn't have time to make more. She tried soaking the cakes in rum, for us, unpleasant to the taste; bourbon-same results. For whatever reason, almost any brand of red wine made the fruitcake an extremely delicious dessert.

Beautiful! The eyes of each animal always seem to me to be calculating how much meat is on my bones.

I'd always wanted to see Glade Creek Grist Mill and had planned to go there our first morning in Hico (nearest base for exploring the triangle between Hawksnest, Summersville, and New River Gorge). As it turned out, though, we arrived there mid-afternoon on our way up from Monroe County. At first we thought we'd just go check it out, but the clouds provided such soft lighting that we went ahead and shot the works. Before calling it a day, we drove down to the Tunney Hunsaker bridge that crosses the New River and shot up to "The" Bridge just as the light was disappearing behind the mountain.

Beautiful pictures. I lived in Lewisburg for 8+ years and was not into photography at the time, so no pictures. Check out "Bridge Day". One lane of traffic becomes people walking only, sky divers by the dozens leap from a special platform (one at a time), a ZIP line is established going from just under the bridge to the river bed below, all offering abundant photo opportunities.

Received as a gift a new Sigma 150-600mmlens. Photos(Osprey, Pelican, Egret and Turkey Vulture) were taken using this lens with my Canon R6, handheld, using a high shutter speed so not to show any blur through camera movement

Very nice, sharp pictures! Pictures 1,2,9, appear to be hawks; ospreys have different colored eyes, larger talons, are slightly larger, and have whiter breasts.

It is said that miners who were down to their last dollar took this road out of Telluride; however, I took the road from the other way and ended my travel in Telluride. The road is pretty good, but there are deep ruts in places that need to be straddled. The first image is the Last Dollar Ranch and the last image is of Telluride. The views are great and there was no traffic. I hope you enjoy.

Really wonderful pictures of a beautiful part of our country. Thank you for sharing! By the way, in #5 did you get photo bombed? On the DDL, coming straight down from the central pointed peak to the bottom of the tree line, that could be a very large ? standing there.

WOW! Beautiful picture. If that were mine, even if I lived in your area, it would be on the wall ASAP.

Ooops. Sorry 'bout that. In just the last year my "Forgetter" has gotten much better than my "Rememberer." Thanks for the reminder.

I think I see what you see; however, to the right of the straight stick and just above the horizontal rock, I see a pretty good human face.

I just spent some time on XRite’s page, and frankly (at least to me) their product offerings are now a bit confusing, especially when you add in their distributor Calibrate where their link takes you if you follow their recommendation for a replacement for the Smile product.

Personally, I have used DataColor’s Spyder for many years and find it and the included SW very easy to use. I’d suggest something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Datacolor-SpyderX-Pro-Calibration-Photographers/dp/B07M6KPJ9K/ref=sr_1_2?gclid=Cj0KCQjwnP-ZBhDiARIsAH3FSRcsngJ6k2LwNMTDurfb1JSJi_xLOV2vgVc3Iv2_QdSuFhmIiIgJq90aArS7EALw_wcB&hvadid=557070512073&hvdev=t&hvlocphy=9009733&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=7884135928683910605&hvtargid=kwd-338080258227&hydadcr=18502_13444477&keywords=colormunki+display+calibration&qid=1665201742&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjQ0IiwicXNhIjoiMC4wMCIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sr=8-2&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840

After you do the calibration, download the correct ICC profile for your printer and paper (from your paper manufacturer) and then enable soft proofing using that profile in your post processing application. Do those things, and your prints should look very close to your display in terms of brightness and color. Of course, there are others variables - your ink, paper, printer settings, etc, but calibration, the correct ICC profile and soft proofing are a good beginning.

Since my "Forgetter" has gotten much better than my "Rememberer", I need some help. The quality of what I see on my computer (with very little tweaking) looks nearly exactly like what I saw when taking the picture; the resulting printer output is softer and less vibrant.

How can I correct this? I open Displays and the option (which I do not remember doing) show the setting as "Recalibrated iMac 4".

I just returned, without using, a ColorMunky Smile, to check the colors on the computer. Xrite company has discontinued a bunch of models and provided some upgrades for these discontinued models. The "Smile" was not even listed as available or discontinued.

Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
