That is crazy good IQ at 1200mm , 400ss and 75% crop...even on a monopod.
Well done!

(And well done Canon :-)

Thanks daddio! I kept SS low as I wanted a reasonable ISO at 1250. I was already wide open at f8 and the egret was just walking around so I knew I could make it sharp. Of course if he took off, I'd probably need a good bit of luck to get a shot off.

The grain is so fine at ISO's under 2000 that the pictures hardly need any work at all. If over 2000 I usually bring into PS and apply neatimage.....

I though these head shots were kind of strange, but also unique in that folks don't often post these unflattering angles.

Canon 1Dx II with EF 600mm F4 II with 2x teleconverter = 1200mm on a monopod

1/400sec, F8, ISO 1250

Severely cropped from 20mp down to 4mp-5mp.

Great capture from that distance!

Thanks Mikwar, yes I cropped a good 1/3 of the picture away to get the subject to fill the frame a bit more. I was as close as possible without navigating the rocky shore to enter the lake....not happening!
