I’m planning on entering a print in my county fair’s B&W Category. If I use selective color on an object in the photograph to draw attention to a particular object in the image, would that disqualify the whole image as a B&W photo? What is your opinion?

I have a nikon z50 camera , and have purchased a z50mm lens no vr , camera has no vr and photos are blurry , don’t want to use a tripod , mono , all the time , is this a truly good lens for portrait photos for the z50 ,like the camera kit lens are good but should I use my ftz lens with 50mm g lens or return it ?

Couldn’t possibly be the equipment 6 inches behind the lens?

I had it on order with B&H for a couple of months. I was lucky to find the 100-400 and 2x TC at a local camera store. Even the guy at the store was surprised they had it. Apparently they got two in and only one was spoken for. But I really wanted that 1.4x because my plan was to replace the 200-500 and adapter with that combo until they finally released the 200-600. I finally called Nikon and the guy said they weren’t getting many and they were filling direct orders before supplying stores. They showed as backordered at Nikon too, but within a week I got notification it was shipping. I ordered my 180-600 direct from Nikon too. I hope it’s in the first batch.

I’ve had good luck direct from Nikon. I just like the Payboo card at BH, saves me 10.5% tax. Had to go Nikon direct for my Z9, but BH and Nikon both were shipping me the Z8 on May 25th. Canceled Nikon order and wound up returning Z8 to BH because of lens mount defect. I actually like shooting the Z9 more, just need to find a better way to lug it around on hikes. Thinking of getting an OM-1 kit for when have plenty of light but weight and size are a concern. Hoping for a Z6III announcement.

I ordered the 180-600 the day it was announced, but I’m thinking I’m gonna pick up the 70-180 too. I’ve been using my Z9 mostly for wildlife so far, usually with the 100-400 and 1.4x TC. I have the 24-70, but think I’ll get the entire Nikon/Tamron f/2.8 trinity eventually.

I've been shooting the same, but with no TC. I do occaisionally put the 500 PF on with an F-mount TC 14eIII and FTZII adapter. I went ahead and ordered both lenses. My 100-400 may become obsolete. I have yet to find a Z 1.4 TC in stock.

Nikon rumors announced it a while back, just remember reading it.

My guess is they will cost the exact same, else a lot of returns and a dent in Nikon lens sales. But perhaps the rumor will come true before my 70-180 and my 180-600 are delivered by B&H.

per saycheeze’s post, 3rd from top, you can use the Sony Tamaron lens with an adapter on a Nikon z-mount.

Unless that Megadap adapter is free, the lens won't be cheaper to use.

Yes, but if I can buy the exact same lens cheaper than from Nikon, please show me where!

Or get the exact same lens for less now from Tamron?

Can you provide a link to this? All I find on Tamron site is a lens in Sony E mount.

Yes, we did confirm the serial number, and she has had trouble getting her lenses to lock. Maybe we are being overly cautious, but I would rather be safe than sorry. expecially if we are out of the country. We always travel with at least two bodies, but my big grip is that we were not notified by Nikon. Had she not checked the site, we would have been fat and happy! Thanks for your response.

What email address and account is her camera registered under? That’s where you would get recall notice. And sometimes they go to spam.

Characterization of the technology as discarded and no longer desired is based on the myopic and panicked view of a small population of highly excitable people. The total number of high-end cameras being produced by all companies is in reality a very small number against the total number of photographers. The hype, while fun for some, is close to meaningless in the total photography marketplace. Only a very small percentage of photographers can or will spend $4,000-6000 for a camera or $10,000-30,000 for a complete system, especially if they have already done it before.

There will be an ongoing market for reasonably priced photographic equipment. The makers have let us know it will not be satisfied by them. That is the classic foundation for a strong secondary market. Just wait 8-10 years until the carmakers fulfill their promise and quit making internal combustion powered cars. Watch what that does to the market for nice used ones.

The pressure to dump is irrational. It plays straight to the desire of the manufacturers for us to spend money with them that doesn't really need to be spent...at least not right now. In my mind, it borders on being fraudulent. Have you noticed that the manufacturers aren't actually promoting it? They don't have to. They are allowing key segments of their customer base to do it for them.

I very well may eventually buy a Z8 or something similar. But not now. And I won't dump my existing equipment to do it. While I might sell it, it's more likely that I'll give it (or at least some of it) to two outstanding teachers who have become really good friends, who will know exactly what to do with it, and who will love to have it.

Respectfully, thinking there is still a healthy market for DSLR (used or new) is myopic. Otherwise, why has Nikon discontinued production of the D500? Your posture about size of market isn’t valid. There are far more drivers on the road than new cars being produced each year. Same as cameras. How many used cars do you see going up in value ( pandemic being an extraordinary exception)?

The market is flooded with dumped top-end mirror box cameras right now. Some of my local stores are not currently buying any. Pressure to sell now is not good advice. Prices offered are quite likely to recover when the glut has a chance to correct.

If you just must have a shiny new toy, buy it. Sell later when the market recovers somewhat. If it doesn't recover, you haven't lost anything. If it does, you're ahead.

Why do you think the market will recover on discarded and no longer desired tech? As I recall, the market for VHS tape players evaporated once blue-ray disk was introduced and that was quickly replaced by DVR. Even closer to home, once digital took over, what was the market for used film cameras? DSLR will become a limited niche market like film did. I believe we are beyond evolution and revolution is well underway. Hang on to your buggy whips if you like, but used cameras were always a secondary smaller market to new cameras. Lenses only retain value because of adapters. in a day where many cameras are being replaced by cell phones, that used market shrinks even more.

D500 was a great camera. Hard to understand why Nikon discontinued it. D850 is still the greatest DSLR anyone ever made, and probably ever will. I personally shoot with a D600 and a D750. Same sensor, same memory cards, same battery. Really, the two models are so similar that I have to look at them to see which one I have in my hands. Why haven't I bought a Z camera? The Z8 is a compelling camera with much improved AF. I'd like that. But despite the massive increase in megapixels, image quality isn't much different. So to go to a Z8 I'm spending $4,000 plus, and that assumes I'm happy using my F lenses with the FTZ converter. Add the converter to the Z8 and the rig is going to be heavier than my D750. If I can't see a difference in image quality, do I really want to spend $4K and move to a heavier rig to get better AF? Granted, it's a LOT better AF, but still, that's a LOT of money. After a decade using the D750 I know it like it's an extension of my hand. No way can I see making a change unless the old D finally moves on to camera heaven.

Think about this. In two years Nikon will release another new camera. Maybe a Z8II, and your Z8 will already be losing value and taking a step toward obsolescence. So I'm still sitting here wondering why would you want to move on from one of the best wildlife cameras anyone ever made, the D500, and the absolutely best DSLR anyone ever made, unless you have to?
