A brave kid. BTW it would be a good idea for the mother to take him to some kind of therapy. K*****g someone can have an impact on a youngster, who may not be equiped to deal with it.
She should make sure the shrink has either had military experience themselves, or have worked with a large number of returning vets. Not all shrinks are adult enough to deal with violent death dealt out at the hands of a kid, let alone deal adequately with the boy.

Interesting. I've seen a couple of articles about this. As for the film itself, why was the music so loud? I had trouble understanding what they were saying, especially with the accent.

We have the same problem with many of the modern videos, background music far too foreground. Seems that modern video sound tech have had their hearing altered by earbuds. Maybe they can hear the voices through the blast of idiotic sound coming out of the speakers, but us old timers have a problem with it.

I have a hearing problem.
I still have some, and I would like to keep it.

Thank the good Lord I didn't have to use these terms when writing tech manuals for the U.S. military! Would have driven the Yankee (not politically correct term, I know) lads bonkers trying to figure out how to fix the equipment.

Richard Bach (the author of Jonathan Livingston Seagull and Illusions) once wrote technical manuals for Douglas Aircraft. I remember a good example of what you're talking about. In one of his books he recounts the term "takeoff power" got changed to something like full power or emergency power after a pilot verbally misunderstood "TAKEOFF POWER" to mean take off the power and a very large aircraft fell out of the sky.

As a tech writer with some 50 years experience writing military tech manuals, mostly for the U.S.A.F., I can guarantee, there are quite a few pilots who are, shall we say, not the brightest bulbs in the six pack? Also, since I dealt mostly with EWO (Electronic Warfare Officers), mostly recent grads of the training school, and who still knew everything, it was an experience not soon to be forgotten. (Notice, I did use and abreviation (with full name afterwards). I learned my tech writing skills as an instructor in Airborne Electronic Warfare Equipment Maintenance training, as a Field Training Instructor/Instructor Qualification Instructor (that means I qualified other instructors to teach the stuff). Loved it. Love tech writing, LOVED THE MONEY. Ha. Damned good money as consultant.

A few years ago I was enjoying a crab fest in a coastal South Carolina town. Great fun, wonderful food. I was using my Pentax K 10 with the battery grip and I had a bag with a couple of lenses. Suddenly I was accosted by a woman who demanded to know if I were from the newspaper. She didn't want any pictures of her in the newspaper. I tried to assure her that I was an amateur, shooting with my family just for my own amusement. I guess she finally believed me, because she left with a sour expression. Sort of soured my pleasure in the day, at least for a while. God must love a**holes, She made so many of them!

No, actually, as he told me, He made them so the rest of us would have horrible examples not to follow.

I'm sure it will be corrected, as B&H is quite reputable. The question is why an opened box was sent out as new...and it was clearly opened, since the taping and frayed box flaps were very conspicuous. It only takes one indifferent employee to harm a business's reputation. And the other factor is the wasted effort (and strain to my back) of moving equipment around and carrying the heavy box downstairs...and now, back to a shipper, then do it all over again when I get the right CPU. That one low man on the totem pole has caused a lot of grief.

This one I caught in the SGV Tribune the other day and called the Editorial Room and asked who wrote this.

It took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!! They put in a correction the next day.

I just couldn't help but send this along. Too funny.

46 years as a technical documentation writer/consultant, and the damned spell check (especially the computer one) still doesn't work wright. BC (Before Computers), it was Webster, and it had its problems (operator spelling). I mean, I am so old, when I started, the newspapers used to shatter against the cave door! Real cut and paste, sissors, glue pot, sticky fingers and all. And I loved every minute of it. Got into writing by accident. Out of high school, went to work on the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a station agent/telegrapher. At the first station, took over on relief for the vactioning station master, and took his old, yellowed operational notes, and typed them up after organizing them into function. Staff was delighted, and I found that I was good at it. Air Force taught me even more, got out after 12 years, and started my own consulting firm, technical documentation consultants. Retired in 2002, but still miss it.

Yes, older and shakier, but when I clamp a straight board and guide my saw along it, I get a straight cut.

From what I saw, he is using the thin edge as a straight edge, so that he doesn't have to figure in the width of the saw base assembly when clamping down his thick board. The thin board width is exactly the same as the base assembly to the saw blade. That automatically positions the thick board for the edge of the base assembly to run against.

And Jerry, I use your method, mark the line to cut, sit the guide the width of the base assembly less the width of the saw blade, clamp, and cut. Some people don't like all that measuring. Ha.

Yumpin-Yimmeny, nice picture. :)

Thanks Bill. Berlin Germany, Summer of '56, or '57, maybe even '58. I was there in the U.S.A.F., Dec. 1955, Sept. 1959. Loved that city. Wouldn't go back for love nor money now. Have an Ancient Aunt (by marriage) that lives there now, in a rehab home (broken hip), and she says the muslims have totally ruined the place.

(This is a repost. I was advised that for the American readers I had referred to November 11th with the incorrect name.)

Beginning about this time last year, I ran a series leading up to November 11 of battlefields, cemeteries and memorials to World War One. These were of sites that my wife and I have visited in Belgium and France.

If people would like it run again, I will gladly do so with added photos, modifications and additional history of the battles themselves.

I also would appreciate seeing it, as I did not see the first run. I had a step-grandfather that was an ambulance driver on the St Mihiel Salient in Montsec, France. I took pictures of the memorial dedicated to that area, and he was very grateful. He has crossed over and is with his comrades now, bless them all.

I agree. Something else that has gone overboard is "political correctness". What is wrong with offending every body a little bit, as long as it isn't too mean or hurtful? And if people of a certain belief don't like it they can always go back to the land they came from, rather than bombing us for our freedom of expression.

If one gets offended by a joke told by someone else, and one is not the subject of the joke (or even if one is, come to think of it), one needs to grow a thicker skin, grow up, and join the adult world of give and take.
If some one tells a joke about me, I am the first one to laugh, and usually the loudest. That really offends the joke teller. Gotcha :!:
