Long ago while I was still teaching I read an article about a Greek singer who had been voted the best singing voice in Europe by some music group. It was Nana. I bought two of her albums to add to my collection I played during work time in the classroom. The students, esp the aspiring singers among the girls liked her music. I once read that when someone asked her why her albums didn't feature the same things others did to make things more dramatic, her reply was something like "What is wrong with pretty music?"
I also read that she has recorded in at least 12 languages - she learns them phonetically - the same thing the Swedish group ABBA used to do for albums sold in different countries. She is fluent in at least 6 languages.
She was also a member of the European Parliament and a UNICEF Ambassador in the 90s. She is now in her mid 80s.
