There seems to be some color pattern variation in this spider. For instance, there is no orange in this individual.

The first beetle looks to be a leaf beetle, Ophraella sexvittata. The 2nd might be a bark beetle (Scolytidae), but hard to tell.
Thanks Mark for the IDs.

This moth has color pattern very much like one I previously posted, Lithacodia musta. This moth is larger, about 3/4 inch long and lighter colored. Captured him and put him in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes. This is an eight layer stack. Check out the download.

Make sure that the internal white cloth diffuser is stretched from one side to the other, and attached via Velcro patch. Also, make sure that speedlight plastic diffuser is deployed in front of flash lens. The combo of all three will provide the most even illumination, corner to corner of your softbox face.

Nikonian72:

Thanks for the tips.

In addition I have glued popsicle sticks to the sides so it will hold its shape.
Makes it a little more awkward to transport but more consistent to aim.

Soldier beetle and a red aphid. The beetle is about 3/8 inch long. Is the beetle eating the aphid or just having some honeydew?
White moth with orange trim. The Moth appears bright white from a distance. Appears to be Cycnia tenera.

Further research indicates that the fly is Delphina picta and that some pictures on Bugguide are incorrect.

I also went to Bugguide.net and put in Delphinia picta and the white bands did not cross the wings. So we still don't have a definitive answer.

If you go to Bugguide.net and put Tritoxa incurva in the search box you will get 19 pictures. In some of the pictures the white bands competely cross the wings and in some of the pictures the white bands do not cross the wings.

The fly looks like a Tritoxa incurva to me. I did some work with them some time ago. Note: on Bugguide there seem to be two wing patterns associated with this fly. I don't know if one is in error or if there are two varieties.

What diffusion are you using on speedlight head? A 6x8-inch softbox diffuser may reduce shadow, and soften specular highlights.
Using a soft-box as you suggest. The light was to the upper left of the lens. The shadow became more prominent as I was processing to bring out the structure of the subject.
