Even with rereading before posting, typos will still occur. Unless one is a journalist's editor pointing out someone's typo' should be discouraged, even if done "in jest".

In all of the United States the Green Jay and the Long Billed Thrasher are found only in South Texas. The Black Crested Tufted Titmouse in Texas and SW Oklahoma and the Pyrrhuloxia found in Texas and Southern New Mexico and Arizona.

A little bit of Dennis goes a long, long, long way and I am not referring to his guns.

I don't happen to use a teleconverter because I don't do small birds. But a teleconverter would have let you focus more easily on the bird and not the stump. That alone would have gotten you off on the right foot.

A D850 does not start out with a 30MP image unless you cropped from 45MP it in the camera (I can do that with the Z7 but I don't crop any further). 9MP is only 1/5th of what the camera can capture at full frame.

As for making hasty assumptions, I am nearly 12 years older than you and I know more about this than you will twelve years from now, if you study it really hard.

I noticed the missed focus the minute I originally saw this photo. That fact is solely operator error and no amount of MP's can correct it. If you are about 12 years older than Retired CPO I an about 5 years older than you and I'm sure we both have made that error at sometime or other. I feel that Retired CPO has taken some comments far beyond their original intent. Maybe he could pop open a bottle of non-alcohol beer and chill a bit.

If we gave two people a digital camera and lens, and after a week we learned one camera has twice as many pixels at the other, who do you think was the better photographer?

The answer to that question bears no relationship to the number of pixels.

Expounders of mirrorless claim that a person can see the difference between a mirrorless and a DSLR image. I would like to see a scientific side by side comparison between the two. Two high end full frame cameras of the same brand using the same lens, since the comparison is between cameras not lenses, same exposures and SOOC. No post manipulation. Prove that the mirrorless end result superiority hype is not all bark and no bite.

You are correct, if the commissioned artist is established enough to command the freedom to paint (or photograph) on his own terms. For instance, if you asked van Gogh to paint your portrait. But he would have given you a van Gogh portrait, which may or may not have been what you had in mind. It would be the same thing if you contracted Annie Leibovitz to do a photographic portrait of you. But it would be her vision of your portrait, not yours. Very few brides would hire a photographer on those terms.

This has been an ongoing discussion this year with an artist who doesn't consider photography to be art at all.

If one is documenting ones life with visual pictures, then everyone has the right to do that. If one is documenting stories of culture and civilization, then I suppose that is street photography. But most people who do think that just taking photos of the street is documenting culture and civilization.

Deep meaning personally and documented for oneself is fine and its called photography(all lowercase letters). Photos that groups of people will say “Oh WOW!” in whatever genre is called PHOTOGRAPHY(uppercase letters).

In my experience over 55 years of shows and presentations, most people are photographers, who want to believe they are PHOTOGRAPHERS.

There are examples of photography and PHOTOGRAPHY here on Ugly. Most of it is the former.

Who is qualified to judge? I have long considered Ansel Adams a PHOTOGRAPHER, yet while recently looking through a book of his works I found his photos to be quite dreary and definitely not "Oh WOW", yet he is still considered a master. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Its not so hard to figger out. You are already halfway there in knowing that those are NOT the ones. Then just consider their opposites, and the veil will be lifted.

Thanks for nothing. I guess you don't know either.

What does a camera have to have to be considered
one of the miraculous mirrorless ones CANON and others rave about? There are plenty of mirrorless digital cameras. My Lumix DMC FZ 1000 is mirrorless, so is my RX100 vii along with my Nikon A1000 but they are obviously not the ones the mirrorless crowd is all gaga about.

Mirrorless cameras are a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. Images captured from behind a mirror are cold, heartless and uncaring.

I got it. Just before pressing the shutter I'll change to mirror up and then I'll have feely, touchy, loving images. Thanks for the heads up.
