A recent post about the youth and our vets got me thinking about my Ancestry. I have no children, so there is no one to pass the information on to. Growing up in the 50's and 60's, my interest in what life was like for my parents and grandparents was nil, only interested in playing and what was for diner. I lost my father when I was 12 and my mother when I was 23, My grand parents pass away when I was younger.
As I got older, I began wondering about what life was like for my parents and grandparents.
Now I have questions,
1. What was life like when my parents first got married? How much money did they make and what kind of work did they do?
2. How much did there first house cost?
3. What kind of entertainment did they have? radio, TV, movies
4. What was the cost of Gas for the car and what brand of car did they own?
5. What was it like when they were growing up?
These same question can be used about our Grandparents. Although many on this site, have children, they may not be that interested about the past family history today, In the future they begin to wonder, when it is too late to ask there parents.
May I suggest, that you create a loose leaf note book and start writing down some of your past history of what life was like in your early years and what information you have on your Grandparents.
In years to come, your children will become very grateful.
Just my two cents
A recent post about the youth and our vets got me ... (

I'm all for obtaining general information from Ancestry sites. My ancestors came mostly from England and Scotland and settled in the South. On the other hand, I won't put myself out there for distant relatives to find me and start chatting. My son put his information into one site and was contacted by some wacko women in the midwest who is the illegitimate daughter of a relative of my wife we've never had contact with, demanding that he contact this relative and tell him that she has a right to have contact with him. Not only that, his attorney had already gotten a restraining order against her.
