Does anyone know what T.I.P.S. stands for and when to use it? (T= to I= insure P=prompt S-service)
I had an incident about thirty years ago, I received the and noticed the total was quite a bit more than it should have been, then saw a 15% Gratuity had been added I questioned the waitress , and the manager came to the table. and tried to tell me that was normal, I politely told him that I decided when to tip or not to, a bit of blustering later I paid the proper amount. I was told not to come back I just smiled and said if I wanted to get Scre### I would just stop and see his wife before the meal .
while this was going on my wife slipped the waitress a generous tip while the manager was getting red in the face.

That explanation of the origin of the word "tip" is very common, but doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Acronyms are a 20th century thing, and no use of acronyms before that has been found. But the word "tip" to mean a gratuity for service dates back to the 1700s.

Talk about coincidence!

The latest episode of the Simpsons has the family eating in a restaurant. When they get the bill, there is "Service Charge" added, and they expect a tip, as well. Naturally, the situation gets ridiculous, with Homer being hounded to leave tips everywhere he goes. He finally winds up in Little Europe, where there is no tipping and no mystery about how much he will have to pay for things.

Extra charges are creeping in on us, and we are not only becoming accustomed to them, but some people even agree that we should pay more than the posted price. "Baaa! Baaa! Lead me anywhere, and I will follow."

California passed a law prohibiting any kind of surcharges in restaurants. It all has to be added to the menu price.

I use https://identify.plantnet.org to identify plants. It agrees with Lily of the Nile.

THIS IS "THE ATTIC" NOT FOR PHOTOGRAPHY.

It was originally posted in Main Photography. It ended up in the Attic because some trolls insisted on making political posts, so Admin moved it.

My photography business did mostly business portraits and events. My best clients were big law firms that had a large crop of new attorneys every year. I would tell people I earned a living shooting attorneys.

I pixel peep. If there are windows, I want to see what’s on the table inside the house (metaphorically). I want to get lost in the details. I remember seeing a photo taken on a glass plate in the 1800’s. The photographer shot a town from across the river. You could just keep blowing it up and see more and more of that town. Everything was crystal clear. It blew me away. I don’t know how the photographer did it.
It just sparked my imagination in a way most other photos of that size couldn’t.
I have no idea whether my camera can reproduce that effect at A3 size, but I’m going to try.

It was probably a large format glass plate camera. Carleton Watson had a camera which used 18x22 inch glass plates.

I do pixel peep photos I plan to print. I view the image at 100% to check sharpening, and then I scroll back and forth, up and down to see if there are any areas which need a little dodging or burning, or removing any spots (I shoot flower closeups and often they have spots on them), or any other small details I feel need some adjustments. I just try to clean up the photo as much as I can and make it read the way I want it.

I recorded the series for watching at my leisure. Some of the episodes were not quite my thing, but there's a couple that I will have to watch again.

The documentary he's talking about seems to be a standalone film, not a series.

"Un croped"

James Hamilton... Photographer

I don't know if this is old news to you all...
I saw it on XFINITY last evening...
Check your listings to find it...

I think most of you can identify with him...in his process...

Plus the many images to take in here...

Actually it's Uncropped. I looked it up on Rotten Tomatoes, and it looks like it's worth checking out. I have Xfinity, and they're renting it for $5.99.

Actually, I have a CURRENT problem. Maybe I'm in the wrong place. My Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II has started producing faded prints, lacking in detail. Tried nozzle check, cleaning 3X, deep cleaning. No luck. I did get a "new" computer recently. Any ideas?

Instead of replying to a 9 year old thread you should just start a new thread about the subject.

Here, and in other threads/posts, you say that ADMIN moved a post... how do you tell when a post has been moved by ADMIN?

When you see a post in one forum, and then it appears in another, Admin must have moved it. If you realize you have posted in the wrong forum you can request Admin to move it by using the Report Issue button, but he is the only one who can move it. Most commonly posts are moved from General Photography to the Photo Gallery or Chit Chat. Or if the post is controversial (politics or religion) to the Attic.

One of the joys of photography is that it's both. It can be art. It can be good photography without being "art." But one must define the word "art" in order to understand the differences. I do mostly journalistic photography. I make it as good and as true to reality as I can get it. Does the fact that I don't change things make it less "art?" I don't think so.

There seem to be people here who feel photography must be manipulated or modified in order to be art. But the work of our best photojournalists and documentary photographers certainly raises to the level of art.

A little known fact. Ansel Adams spent as much time in the fluids darkroom as any of us do in the digital one. His photos are all heavily modified. Perhaps you knew that.

Perhaps you don't realize CHG_CANON is a big joker. It 's hardly a little known fact AA heavily modified his photos.
