OR you could pay attention to real scientists that actually know what they are talking about:

There are a BUNCH of real scientists you can look up that dispute the f**e scientists like Bill Nye the Science Guy.

I realize that computers are complicated, but can't they make them work reliably? It seems that they are more concerned about developing something new rather than making what they have work correctly.

Gates has no clue.
OS/2 was 100% reliable 30 years ago. It was windows that worked, plus a LOT more. Also, UNIX has be reliable since god invented it. Gates and his windows crap set the world of computing back 100 years.

Excellent!
Your owl family is making a lot of mice unhappy I bet...
Wish they were around here eating some of the Chipmunks eating our plant seeds and roots.

My Big Red gave me a black screen and stalled there when I turned it on. That's happened before, and pushing the restart button gets it going. Not today. I went my old, small Dell. It was so slow that it wasn't worth the trouble, so I went to my laptop. I went back to Big Red and turned it on. No problem! Computers were sent to us by Satan!

Yes, if by Satan you mean Bill Gates.
I've been thanking Gates since the early 1980's.

Anyway, I've been having intermittent problems with my mouse jerking around, and occasional computer stalls and slowdowns. I bought a new USB hub that you, or someone reading your posts on USB problems suggested (Atolla 11 Port Powered USB 3.0 Hub - $27.) It has 7 ports and 4 charging ports. I removed all my USB plugs from my PC and plugged them into the hub and WALA, all those issues went away.

I know you have a bunch of USB ports and may have had jumpy mouse issues as well.
This USB hub solved my issues completely.

May this topic R.I.P.

You want the most popular topic on this forum to die?

Not likely to happen.

If YOU are not interested in a topic, Raw, birds, flowers whatever, I suggest you simply skip participating in those topics.

You also can start a topic you are interested and hope others will be interested and participate.

No interest = No participation
High interest = High participation

That's how it works.

I shot a series of magnified images to see what the S24 Ultra can do. These are intended to be viewed on a phone, they fall apart on a computer. Not suggesting pro or con...you decide

You are looking at a hummer feeder which is about 50 ft or so from my patio door. I shot through the glass.

I think 60X would be my limit.

I've never had success with digital zoom on any camera, especially cell phones. Same with zooming in on any picture past 100%.

I must have been teaching one of you. I was teaching high school. It seemed to have little impact on the kids. A lot on the teachers.

I was a senior in HS and in English Lit class. They made the announcement over the PA I think. We were told at the same time we had the next day off. We didn't care a lot about the shooting, a little in that a president was killed. We were pretty happy to have a day off though.

No one needed counseling other than possibly for being a bit crass. But in those days, that was pretty much expected from teens.

Raw files are simply data. Data gets routinely compressed, without loss, for intact retrieval whenever needed. No hey problemo.

Do not equate file compression with jpegging. Jpegs are not comprression. Those files are actually rewritten to produce smaller bundles of code, meaning some data is discarded to reduce file size.

Thanks BigDaddy! I'm glad some can not only read, but understand!

Lots of folks make up stuff that was never said and then present arguments why what was never said is wrong. His was a classic example of the strawman argument. It was so blatantly off the mark I couldn't let it go, even though I knew you could handle it w/o my interjection.

Not to worry. Fusion reactors have been just "30 years away" since 1920 when the idea was first envisioned. At our age, not likely a problem. For our grandkids, probably 30 years away when they get old as well.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is merely a lossy compression algorithm that uses various levels of pixel averaging to save space.. and is a final product. It does its job pretty well... but the image has been altered irreversibly once it is a JPEG.
Not sure what you mean by "it's a final product" You can edit jpgs all day long to get to the "final product."
RichieC wrote:

- every time you open AND SAVE a JPEG, it applies the pixel averaging settings and compresses and loses more data by grabbing similarly colored pixels and making them the same color ( Pixel averaging)... you can't see this normally until its too late, or unless you are trying to coax out detail in a shadow or highlight or zoom in or save every time you do something to the photo.

No one with an ounce of jpg editing experience would routinely overwrite the original jpg file. All major jpg editors have the option to save the edited jpg and it's edits as a lossless developer file (.PSD, .afphoto, .acdc etc.) so your point here is rather moot.

Lol...it's now elitist to shoot RAW...to want control over the post processing?

Preposterous reasoning.

What he said was:
"This discussion has brought out the elitists who think RAW is the where-all and end-all and is what everyone should shoot if they aren't stupid."

Your comment was preposterous and not close to what was said.

I've subscribed to Simon's video's for a while, and pretty much agree with everything he says. He's a good photographer and has lots of good advice, with good video and delivery. As far as RAW vs JPG, neither is wrong. All depends on a LOT of individual issues.
