Jerry, a fantastic set of both and the DDLs really show off the sharpness.

Thanks a lot Greg. Since I used a macro lens and a 100-400L mk2 the only thing that could make them be not sharp would be me.

A Sunny Spring Day = Closeups of Bees and Flowers

Well it is sunny and a nice day. I filled the bird feeders intending to do bird photos but while moving a few things that should have been moved months ago I noticed that the bees were all over the Yellow Sorrel that is popping up all over. So first I grabbed my 5DIV and Tamron 180 macro, then switched over to my 100-400L mk2. A total of 231 shots but after culling the out of focus, partial bees (bees in flight are tricky and hard to follow-who knew?) and bees mooning the camera I ended up with 42 left and some of those will be going on my second cull.
These Yellow Sorrel are just under 1.5" and a bright yellow that in the sunlight tends to have little contrast and blown out highlights so I processed for the veins and other details. That leaves the colors off but it is what I was after. Here is one of just flowers, two with a Bee.
#1 5DIV, Tamron 180 macro, 1/640 @ f/13, ISO 100 hand held
#2 5DIV, Tamron 180 macro, 1/1000 @ f/11, ISO 100 handheld
#3 5DIV, Canon 100-400L mk2 @ 400, 1/800 @ f/16, ISO 800 handheld

I enjoyed these images, Robert. Nice work capturing the bees.

Darn bee butts! It's amazing how many shots we take -- I can get lost taking shots. And then the culling, the worst part for me. Can't wait to try my hand at bees in flight -- I have a 100mm macro. Your shots are great!

Thank you very much.

When I ordered my 180 macro the counter guy at the store asked if I was sure since it has such shallow depth of field. I told him yes I want a 180 macro, the further bees, wasps, spiders etc are from me and my camera the more I can appreciate them instead of looking for escape routes.

I will endeavor to survive without the benefits of "real winter". But I have lived through real winters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, and visited Mammoth
Mtn in winter to see friends (sitting in a heated pool fed by a hot spring with snow flurries falling on us) my army buddy and his wife managed a large condo complex there.

I would like to spend at least two of the colder winter months in a warmer climate, Robert!

Nights no lower than the 40's and datyime highs a maximum of about 85* with mostly moderate humidity.

For this time of year that would be here where I live. Though our highs are usually mid 60s-low 70s

That sounds ideal to me, Robert and that just about met the conditions here yesterday, but sure that we have some colder periods ahead, and usually don't plant anything except for cold hardy plants outside until at least mid-April!
