Well, every polarizer I ever saw was a sheet of plastic.
The ones used as camera filters are s sheet of plastic
sandwiched between two sheets of glass.

No lens in existence is as perfect an optical system
as a flat piece of glass: no aberrations, no distortion,
minimal diffraction.

As another poster said, the problem with glass sandwiches
is when moisture gets inside them. However, with polarizing
filters, I think there's no practical alternative.

I'm just saying that putting even one piece of glass over your precious lens is blasphemy here in this forum, let alone two and heaven forbid 2 with plastic between them.
I use filters all the time with no problem including polarizers but if you admit to destroying you image here in this forum by even thinking of putting a filter in front of your lens the wrath is unimaginable that you will receive.

Yes, a lot of people feel that way---I guess on the "expensive is always better" theory.

But there is no more perfect optical system than a thin, flat, coated piece of clear glass.
No aberrations, no distortion, minimal tinting, minimal absorption.

Their precious lens has aberrations, disortion, tinting and significant absorption.

I am being facetious. For those of us who concern ourselves with photography not a live of hyper enlarged pixel peeping world, a good quality filter that provides the desired result to obtain our vision is far more important than some fantasy degradation of a photo that is viewed on FB or printed at any size etc.

Yeah, you're so right: science and engineering are B.S.
What matters is doing what feels good.

It's cold outside today, therefore there's no climate change.
You gotta trust your own experience--not listen to some damn
scientist or engineer!

I am being facetious.

Thanks for all the great advice, I will stay away from the cheaper filters. I liked the eBay suggestion. I will try that out and see if I can get any good deals. Thinking about going for a square filter or a large round with step down rings... square filters are non stackable, correct? maybe round is a more flexible route to go...

Another excellent quality filter maker is MARUMI. Look into it

And there is NO man made climate change.

I've had what I consider really good results with the NiSi system and their ND's but as I replace my filters I'm strictly Breakthrough, their 100mm ND's and GND's are made with tempered glass and are fantastic. Customer service is great too.
