Organ Donation

A new law in England -

"From next year, the law on organ donation will be changed in England so that everyone will be assumed to have given consent for their organs to be used unless they opt out."

The family can still override the decision of the deceased, and organ transplant is possible in only about 1% of deaths, so the new law isn't expected to be much help for those waiting for organs..

How anyone can consign the body of a loved one to rot rather than to help another person to live, is beyond my understanding.

"But I'm not dead."

"You will be after we remove your liver."

Good point. Some people are afraid that the need for a body part will encourage medical professionals to do less to keep the patient alive. This sounds like ridiculous reasoning to me. China, on the other hand, has a reputation for removing parts from non-volunteers when the rich or politicians need them.

“Not a special lover, but a liver nonetheless!”

Here's a Monty Python skit, "Bring Out Your Dead" that is hilarious and it truly fits this situation in the UK.

The link starts at the relevant topic point. Enjoy and have a good laugh..! https://youtu.be/grbSQ6O6kbs?t=56

I've signed up as an organ donor but my Will stipulates I'm to be quickly cremated without any embalming (cheapest legal way out). Will they hold off on cremation until the good parts are removed? Anyway, I think this is a great idea...organ donation should be the default setting.

I'm surprised that even 1% of the population own a Wurlitzer.

With all of the leanings toward post-birth abortion, I'm surprised they don't pass a law that if you don't opt out, your organs are up for grabs at any time, whether one is using them or not.
