There's a religion called Wicca. In Wicca, the practitioners worship a God and a Goddess.
Wicca is a neo-pagan religion that began in the early 20th Century in England and has spread throughout the world. In the most recent survey, there was found to be more than 1 million Wiccans in the United States.
Now, here's some important stuff you need to know.
People who practice Wicca are called Witches. Gender doesn't matter, all are called Witches.
Now don't be afraid, mostly their practices involve nature and spells, which you Christians would call thoughts and prayers.
Other things that you probably believe is that they are shapeshifters and fly on brooms, and can turn you into a toad. But, alas, none of those is accurate and they are mostly normal people who you wouldn't give a second glance when you meet them.
So, yes, there are witches, Louise. They're everywhere.
Just before you go off on a childish rant, I'm still an atheist so, no, I'm not a witch, but you never know about some of the others on this site and perhaps even some people in your family.
As to Salem, the fact remains, that the people who persecuted women and claimed they were witches were ultra-conservative, religious zealots. The other thing you should know before I close is that in Salem, more than 200 people were accused of being witches, and only 20 of them were executed. Nineteen by hanging and one by being crushed. It was a very lucrative business to accuse someone of witchcraft so you could take their property.
So, were these 20 people practicing witchcraft in Salem. I don't believe so and even if they were, the real miscreants in this story are Puritans, who were 1. Christians and 2. Had fled Europe to escape religious persecution.
All in all, given your views, you'd probably be one of the executioners if this happened again. Only difference today is that your "witches" are Democrats.
How very sad you are.
Okay, I guess it's time for you to be schooled. b... (show quote)

Little Frankie, this is stupid. People can call them selves whatever and it does not make it real. Get a grip. Lib fascist socialist dems call themselves thinking people, but they aren't.

I understand that Honey. I mean, lots of people in this Country call themselves Christians.
Odd that you should be so close minded. Wiccans believe that as a woman gets older, she gets wiser. They refer to these women as Crones.
But I guess there's always the exception who never gets any wiser regardless of their age.
You probably just need to get out more.

Chris, I respectfully disagree. Children can be exposed to God or religion at school and it may not be available to them at home for any number of reasons. I am simply saying expose them to the options.

Isn't the title of this thread "Whatever happened to the separation of church and state?"

Now you want the government (via the Department of Education) teaching religion?

I don't understand.

As long as its the one true Christian religion, what's the problem with that?

LoL

I did not say "teach religion" I said expose them to their options. If children want to pray at school, let them, it they chose not to, that is fine. I am not in agreement with teaching them nothing. While the department of education is at it, they could start teaching history correctly.

Children are able to pray in school today.

They can do it quietly, at recess...at lunch...before class...after class...on the bus...instead of dreaming about eating ice cream.

If religious concepts come out of a teachers mouth, during class, then they are "teaching" religion.

I agree about history.

Your statement is not accurate. When my kids were in school, any sign of religion was forbidden at lunch, recess or any other time. I moved them to a christian school.

Read the rest of my post. Don't worry Louise, they won't turn you into a toad.

Being a Wiccan doesn’t make one a witch, and overly not in the context of what people believed witches to be during the Salem witch trials.

You seem very confused.

So I guess after we "expose" them to Christianity, you'll be on board with "exposing" them to Islam, Wicca, Satan Worship, Buddhism, etc, etc.
There are 5,000 religions in the world. I think this may take some time.
