Juvenile Anhinga

Just returned from a trip to St. Pete and spent an afternoon at Sawgrass Park there. This anhinga appears to be a juvenile, but I witnessed it picking twigs to reinforce the nest. Anyway, enjoy, if you can.

What a cutie! I love how you've emphasized its unruly head feathers.

Thanks, Linda. It's those head feathers that make me think it's a juvenile. I don't believe adult birds have those. Here's a shot of one I captured a couple years ago. When in the water, they submerse themselves, except for their skinny neck/head.

Oh I didn't know that. Great perspective!

Nice pic, Sawgrass is one of my favorite places to walk, shoot and hang out.
Is that big ol gator still sunnin on the river bank?

I didn't see her this trip!! Saw a couple younger gators. She usually has a new brood this time of year.

We didn’t see her this year either. Maybe next year.
I always assumed it was a male gator cause he’s big, lazy and ugly. Plus I thought I saw cigar ashes.

As you know, the vegetation is dense at places, and that's where she usually decides to keep her young. This is one pic of her.

Yes, that looks like the one that ussually hangs out pretty close to the big observation gazebo.
I can see at least five of her young there. Nice shot.
We also used to see about a ten or eleven footer on the river bank a bout halfway between the two covered observation decks on this boardwalk. I think it might be called the Tamarac trail.

Ah! Never have seen that one! I’ll have to keep my eyes open for him.
