Hello good folks of UHH. I was wondering if I may gather an opinion from some of you on whether these two photos would be good enough for a couple of 18x24 canvas prints. I've had several here in town in my photo club who say they are, however, I would love to get a few more opinions before I fork out the cash. Also, would you wrap or frame it? Thanks for the feedback.

For some reason it will not let me attach the photos to this post, so I had to link both - sorry.

I like the "Night time harbor shot". Not too crazy about the other one. Before investing in a canvas print, I usually get a cheap print from Costco just to see how it looks large scale. For a 16x20 print, Costco charges me only $5.99. Good luck.

Night time harbor seems dark for a room print but probably not for a gallery print view.

Beautiful Sunset would grace my wall will a low intensity light for sure.

I can't answer your question but I wanted to say that first image is beautiful. Have you considered printing it on metallic paper?

No I haven't, but I did have someone recommend that in my photo club. I'm not sure what the metalic looks like, so I'm gonna give it a search - thanks for the input.

The harbour one very nice can you lighten the rocks a tad. The sun as silhouetted the rock's a little to much IMPO

In my eye, there is too much information for that large a print. Not sure where or when exposed to this concept: big -less detail, simplify; small- greater detail

Harbor shot definitely - I would not frame, as the eye will follow that pier indefinitely . . . the second one seems either too dark (if you want the foreground) or too light (If you want the sunset / shore silhouette) Frame for the second one.

The question is, do you think they are good enough? One of the other folks posted this link to a site that does canvas pretty cheap in another thread, http://www.canvasdiscount.com/. Hope that helps some.

For a canvas, I think #2 has an artisitc quality to it.

I think that they are bother very nice, however, I agree that the second one is a little too dark, I would definitely hang the first one. Very nice composition.

Don't waste your money on the sunset shot, it is mostly dark water and has no real interest. As for the harbour shot, this is also a little dark and is not the most interesting of images either, but if you really wanted to do a large print, do it on metallic paper and don't waste money on Canvas.

These are of course my ideas on the two shots and others will agree and disagree. If I were you I would find the cheapest place to make a large paper print, take it home, stick it on the wall for a week and see if it still really pulls you in to view it all the time. If not, then don't bother with canvas. If it is a print you would hate to take down, then go ahead and have it printed on Canvas. In fact you can even get metallic effect canvas now.
