Photive Battery for Canon 60D

Planning a trip this fall, and want to take a spare battery for my 60D. Naturally, the Canon battery is pricey, so Im thinking about an off brand. Yet one always seems to find mixed reviews of generic batteries. Im just not convinced theyre reliable. Take this one for instance. Mostly good reviews, but some people report problems, e.g., battery does not hold charge, or does not communicate with the camera. Gives me pause. Has anyone used a Photive battery, and if so, does it work for you?

I've only ever bought off brands for my extra batteries and have never had a problem. Some day I probably will, but given the price difference I usually have 3 - 4 batteries per camera.

I just bought a china battery grip w/2 batteries for my canon 60D on eBay from Professional for $53. with good results so far. Read the reviews, I did then chose to spend a couple extra buck. Bought a cheepo for my t1i w/2 batteries separate for a total of $33.00 & it works fine. Now for how long I can't say as yet. Good luck.

Buy the Canon battery. I have had bad experience with off brand Batteries. They do not communicate with the camera & the service life is short. "You get what you pay for".
Also, if they damage your' camera in any way you are stuck with the repair bill !

I use off brand batteries from Radio Shack for my T2i and have no problems with them. They are about $30 instead of the $85 that Best Buys wants for the Canon batteries. I have thought about buying one of the grips from Ebay because of the fact that they will accept AA size batteries and in a pinch they are available most everywhere.

The Canon batteries are pricey, especially if you purchase them from the Canon website. A user earlier in the week posted his dilemma about purchasing that ever so cheap ebay camera battery. His dilemma was that cheap ebay better once inside of the camera became swollen and difficult to remove.
So if you feel like chancing your approx. $900 investment on that battery, the price you paid, $53, for $6 more you could have purchased a Canon Battery

I put the batteries in a battery grip & not my camera because of some of the reviews that I read. You're right & if I have learned anything from UHH is research & know your equipment. Thanks.

when searching for a backup battery for my 60D (LP-E6) I notice there are different values for volt and mAh. If mine is 7.2 and 1800, which numbers do I have to stay with? Thanks

Buy the exact original replacement "Canon" battery.
That way you won't be sorry & you'r canon camera retains its warranty. Shop around at reputable online dealers & you may find a better price.
I shoot Nikons & have at least 10 backup batteries for various models & they aint CHEEP ! & I aint one of the one percenters.
