I shot this in AV mode with Canon 60D. Unfortunately the shutter speed was to fast(4000)
This created noise. The reason for post,This Baby Hawk appears to be hurt. Perching with one foot/tallon. Do they normally do that?
I'm thinking maybe this is a juvenile Cooper's hawk? Red tailed hawks have a speckled "belly band". The red tailed hawks are very common here but I've never seen the Cooper's.
Someone can correct me if my ID is wrong. I think it's not uncommon for raptors to stand on one leg. I have pics of eagles and a peregrine falcon doing it.
red tail hawk
red tail hawk
eagle
falcon ... wish there had been some way to get closer

It is definitely not unusual for them to be standing on one leg. So don't worry. :-)
Thanks,
I am very new to birding as well.
These are very good photo's.

A short shutter duration (1/4000-sec) does
not create noise. A high ISO will definitely cause noise.

Based on photo's in iBird Pro, I'm inclined that it is indeed a juvenile Cooper's Hawk. Often raptors will stand on one foot while preening or flexing the muscles and tendons of the other foot.
Yup, the first shot is a young Cooper's Hawk, and yes it is very normal for them to stand on one leg.
Nice shots.

I've found photographing birds - and raptors in particular - is very addicting. I'd love to see a Cooper's hawk like that.
They are not timid. The adults grow to the size of a large chicken. In the past we would try to shoo it away but until you were very close it would just stare at me. When i hear a large bang on our large windows I know it's around. To escape their prey birds will fly into window thinking it's an escape route. Thanks for helping with description.
