Hi All There are so many wicipis in MN and I do love going to them. Here is a photo of one in Cass Lake last summer. Male dancers in a very fast and furious dance. Please enjoy. Russ Borud

Mesmerizing work, Russ. Love how you captured and emphasized via pp the energy, motion and colors.

Crikey, it’s all happening there! Love the busy outfits and the pp work. Very nice.

Beautiful job! It could almost look too busy but not the way you handled it. Full of energy!

A very good capture of the colorful costume and dancer.

Not criticize but to express my view of these modern dances and colorful costumes - each year they get a little more extravagant and beyond originality - Go back just a 100 yrs and you will find Buffalo Bill's Wild West shows bringing this to the public - I find converting these images to B&W brings back to true colors of the time - the dances are still spectacular.

Harvey Thank you for your thoughts, and I do mostly agree with you, but with the caveat that I grew up about 4 miles from an Ojibwa reservation and being and seeing my eighties in their last gasp, I do indeed remember, quills not beads and that sort of things. But we as the governing class have to see the native american world evolving and being different from our expectations. And though different, wonderful in a different way. I know I feel in some way I for one was part of the change, and also feel somewhat vanquished when I lose at the casino. RBorud

Wonderful job, intensifying the colors to emphasize the energy. I wonder if the grassy/spider-webby texture of the ground, and the exaggerated buildings might be too competitive with the more natural costume.

Bob thanks for your comments, however the background and grounds do become something else in evocative sounds and vigorous movements, in other words one has to be there. My meager work on the background does not does not do enough to realize the spirituality and feeling that surrounds one. RBorud
