Neuschwanstien is THE iconic German castle! Good image! Thanks for sharing.
Brings back some fond memories. My first visit to the castle had me walking the entire path up to the castle. When I got to the main door much out of breath there was a sign telling me I was 5 minutes too late to see inside! My second visit was with my wife. When she wanted to climb into one of the front seats, I discouraged her from doing so. It was not long before the horses "announced" the reason the front seats were not the most desirable. That's a tough pull up that hill!
In 1947, as an American soldier, I was stationed at a former German Wehrmacht Panzer Kaserne just outside of Fuessen, Germany. Neuschwanstein castle was just a few kilometers distant, but was not accessible. Later, sometime in the mid- '50s, my German War Bride and I, with our nephew spent part of our vacation touring Bavaria and the castle. At the foot of the pathway to the castle stood a German fellow dressed as a Jaeger (= hunter, forester) and, for a small fee, we took pictures with him.

I had a chance to go there when I was on an 11-day bus tour in 2000, but at that time I was all castled out. Stayed in town and had a nice lunch and walked around. I was shocked at how much a glass of milk cost (had one with my meal). It was much more expensive than a mug of beer! Dachau was very interesting, if depressing, The lake by the border of Austria was beautiful, and spending my birthday in Munich was fun. I'd like to go back someday...my mom's side of the family is from the part of Germany near Poland and it had changed hands at various times so I don't know if I'm more Polish or German.
My wife and I were there to tour the castle in the mid-fifties, she got tired out about half way up the hill, so we didn't get see the inside. I was stationed in Augsburg at the time.
I am a born American citizen. My mother was Austrian, from near the Hungarian border, and my
father was a German from what is now Rommania, They got stuck in Rommania during the war, they
where trying to sell their lands and get Grandad out, we got out but Grandad could not, the wonderful
communists beat him up, tied him up and threw him into the wood shed, where he froze to death!!!
I speak German and I have been to Germany, and Austria, I served in the American Army in France in
Croix Chapeau - La Rochelle and in Verdun France, and went TDY to Germany a lot
