Apollo 11

Did we really need another film on Apollo 11? It's not like it hasn't had sufficient coverage in the past. But this new documentary has a good reason. It turns out NASA had a film crew document all the mission activities on the ground in 70mm film. Very little of that footage has ever been seen by the public, only a few segments converted into 35mm or even 16mm for news of other documentaries. For this film that footage has been converted to IMAX, and it looks amazing. The film has no interviews or narration. The only audio is newscasts from the period and the radio transmissions from the mission. It really brings back how amazing this accomplishment was. If you have the chance to see it in IMAX, or at least on a theater screen, don't pass it up.

Agreed! It is a great movie but not in the traditional sense of the word “movie”.

Admin moved it. Odd that they haven't moved the two discussions of "Free Solo".

I don't mind. I just saw the discussions of Free Solo in the Main Photography Discussion, and I posted it there. Mine was moved, but the Free Solo discussions are still there.

The movie is a lie. Haven’t you heard we never went to the moon. The aliens would have kicked us off they don’t want us to know about their secret base on the dark side.

A pot smoking party with Elon and Willy would produce some interesting images.

I would like to see this movie. At the time it happened I was in the Mang Yang trying to keep Hwy QL 19 open. No news or contact with the outside world. It was more than a month afterwards that we found out about it.

I went to see it at our I-Max and was very moved by the image quality. I was used to seeing grainy off color film, but this one is clear, sharp and amazing to see. I enjoyed how they kept audio narrations to a minimum...they just let the story unfold on it's own. I left the theater with that proudness I felt so many years ago. I think Apollo 11 is now being show in regular theaters now. Those interested will have to search to see when and where it's playing.

It's amazing they shot all that coverage on 70mm, and it hasn't been seen until now.

The movie was shown on History with their logo all over it. Perhaps they bought the movie. I do not know if they have a website with items for sale. You might look there and perhaps there is a DVD.
