All you are looking for is a mild acid - vinegar, lemon, carbonated water, OR sugar....so Cola will also work. (They leave old car body work parts in molasses and water for a week or two and it removes rust without damaging !)
In the microwave boil a cup full of water and a little lemon juice. It is all you need to get rid of the smell of curry. Cola on oven trays and roasting tins and soak overnight.
Knew there was a use for cola.
Acid not required, steam (from plain water) works perfectly.
Don't need to kill anything, as it won't survive the RF radiation (microwaves).
