It depends what you want to do – Picasa is not any more “disorganised” than any program you are new too; it can also deal with RAW files which FastStone cannot. Down loading the two programs, FastStone and Paint.Net, takes up as much space as Picasa and using the two programs means a lot of jumping about. For someone new to image manipulation Picasa is intuitive and versatile. In my humble opinion if you need something more sophisticated than Picasa you really want to ask yourself if you arer a photographer or an aspiring graphic designer!

There is always lightroom which was designed as photographer friendly vs photoshop, it handles RAW, I hate it's front end indexing library catalog feature ... just want to take an image in , work on it and save it back to the folder it came from with a modified name. Lightroom is great, split toning and graduated ND filter can work wonders and there are probably many other good things I haven't used yet. Graphics programs are like word processors .... you use what you need

Cs6 is the latest. For photo work the main one is Photoshop and video is Premiere. Yes you can get individual programs. Check out this to help you choose. http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite.html. There are other programs other than adobe some very good that are free. It all depends to how deep you want to get into the art.

LOL free is good. I'm disabled and dont get much a month. if you or anyone has links to free software that would rock. Adobe wants way more than i can aford for cs5, Thats why i asked if you can just buy the parts you need. But after looking i cant aford the box it comes in lol.

Free is always good.
Try Picassa or Gimp. There's also a French one who's name now escapes me, that was very good. Have a look around on Google, you'll come up with plenty of choice. It's doubtful you'll find anything as good as CS6 or with any sort of support but, HEY, it's free!

Gimp is free, and does EVERYTHING a beginner will need....the French program is "Photofiltre"- a free download!

That's it. 'Photofiltre' was the one I was thinking of.
I've never tried Gimp, so I can't comment. But, Photofiltre is very, very good for a free bit of software.

Here's an example - I was messing with the gamma correction in FastStone, and thought these flowers without the background looked like trees, and I thought, "Hey that would look cool with a cloud / moon shot behind it in Paint.net." Voila - art - with no talent whatsoever!

If you have the time The Gimp is an excellent alternative to the Adobe products. Like Photoshop it had a large learning curve but there are plenty of tutorials online. Unlike Photoshop it is free and there are free plugins that allow for video editing as well. There are simpler programs to learn but they do not have the capabilities. That is the trade off.

I love what you did...I use those plants (sedums) as trees on my model railroad!
