I bought a nikkor 50:1.8d and a sb800 both in excellent condition. Five Star Camera has Great prices. What impressed me too was the packaging. Very carefully and neatly wrapped. Good place to do business.

Never done this before but just had a very good experience buying a 24-85mm AF non VR lens from Japan. This is an older lens, but wanted a made in Japan plastic version and be a clean one. Found one on EBay from "Five Star Camera". They say they clean all they sale. What I got was a perfectly clean as new lens for $149.00. Ship to MI in 5 days.. I looked at several shops in Japan but found this one most satisfactory.

Usually, you will get great deals on used lenses from Japan on eBay - just apply due diligence and check descriptions, photos and return policies carefully, as with any seller.

I recently ordered a Tamron Macro from Japanese vendor Map Camera via ebay. Excellent, conservative descriptions of items. Ordered on Tuesday and received on Thursday in Maryland. I also bought a 300mm Sony GII that looked almost brand new. They use DHL for delivery. I highly recommend them.

I have purchased several good cameras and lenses from Japan. Everything has gone well, except for one Nicca I recently bought. I had no problem returning the item, even though my “complaint” resulted from my inexperience with the marque.

I have bought a couple of lens from Japan with no problems and found the lens to be as advertised. I would buy from established sellers who have high ratings. By the way I love Yale baloney, always buy some when I am in Mi.

Does anyone remember buying through Albert White, a Hong Kong catalogue outfit? I bought several binoculars, Nikon and Asahi Pentax, satisfactorily about 1970.

I get quality equipment, lower shipping costs (quite often free) and faster delivery from Japan and Hong Kong than I do from the USA or inside Canada. Love these two locations for great equipment and service!!

Just completed the purchase of five of Minolta lenses from Japan and one from the USA. Under five days from Japan AND still waiting after a week from the USA! Free shipping from Japan and $30US from the USA. Guess where I'll continue buying in the future!?

The D70 is a crop sensor that will add to the "reach" of any lens. So, a 50 mm will actually work like an 80 mm. Take the crop size (usually around 1.6-1) x the lense length to get a more accurate focal length. Example: 50 mm x 1.6= 80 mm.
Most of you probably already know but I had to be reminded when I got a "nifty-fifty" a while back for my 7D mark 2.

Bought a Carl Zeiss 85 mm, 1.4 from "Map Camera" (Japanese location) through eBay. Price was great & it arrived in about 3 days. Perfect condition. I'm a happy camper.

I've bought many lenses from Japan --- Their products, even used lenses are very clean and if it doesn't work like they describe then the seller will tell you just keep the lens and I will return your money and I will keep the postage fee for sending it. The Japaneese are really good to deal with. After all they lead the world in photography supplies, cameras etc.

Yes, I'm feeling the same way. I think some USA are doing their best, like B&H, Cameta Camera and others. But I think I will look to Japan first. I'm finding a better price and quality not to mention "made in Japan" instead of China for the same lens, thing's have a tendency to run away on EBay.

I am going to South Africa in the fall. I am planning to buy a Sony a6000 with the standard lens. What should I get for long shots.

I believe a D70 is a Nikon model. Crop factor for Nikon is 1.5. So on a D70, a 50mm lens will "act" like a 75mm. (Canon has a 1.6x crop factor)
